Haiku, Inc.

Haiku, Inc. is the not-for-profit organization founded in 2003 with the purpose of supporting the development of Haiku. It does so via three main tasks:

  • Copyright Holder - The copyright to source code written for the Haiku project is frequently attributed to Haiku, Inc., although authors may chose to maintain their own copyright to the source code they write.
  • Owner of Trademarks - The Haiku logo and name are owned by Haiku, Inc. and it is tasked with enforcing the project's trademark policy.
  • Manager of Funds - Haiku, Inc. manages the funds donated to the project. The most important use is paying for the recurring costs of it's web presence, but additional funds are used to support individuals who represent the project at conferences and trade shows, or to help fund developer coding sprints and similar events.
A group of trusted long-term contributors is currently managing the above tasks for Haiku, Inc. Anyone may become part of this group by sustaining helpful contributions in this area. Other than what is necessary to manage the above tasks, Haiku, Inc. does not have any decision making power within the Haiku project at large. New possibilities for Haiku, Inc. to help develop the Haiku project may be openly discussed at any time.
