Let me just add one more comment before I get back to work: I think we can solve the issues with the zoom button if we introduce an easy way to maximize a window. I personally really like the drag to top to maximize gesture that Microsoft introduced in Windows 7. Various Linux window managers have copied this, and there are applications in Mac OS X which copy it too. I think it is a great idea, and very easy to use. The same applies to the drag to the sides to take half the screen gesture. I think if we added that to our window decorators it would solve a lot of complaints. ...

Another point I think we should note is the possible distinction between R1 changes, and R2 changes. Some of these ideas are much better suited for post-R1 perhaps? I tend to think that R1 is supposed to be the modern update of BeOS, sticking close to the original, whereas after that we are free to break from that mold and go with more drastic design changes leading into R2. The glass ceiling changes I believe they were referred to as. ...

Now if you had to press a modifier key while dragging for this behaviour, this would be something entirely different -- as it would give me back my control, and let me decide whether or not I want to maximize a window. ...
