aalib translator

I got the wacky idea the other day to write an aalib translator. I was wondering if anyone had some information on the translator api to get me started or should I just use one of the others to get started? Also is a translator from the haiku tree compatable with the R5/Dano kit?

No news is good news right? Well anyway I've been meaning to get to this for a while, but I don't have a working Be system right now (read last 5 months) So as soon as I get one back I'll get back to it.

A bitmap -> ascii art translator is a good idea. And a funny one.
AFAIK, all our translators source code are source compatible with the R5 and Dano Translation Kit.
Does AAlib support color/style ascii art?
Monospaced text art is good, but these days a more colorfull one, using vectorial font and color looks even better.

A media node doing the same but in real time for every video frame whould be fun too...

I don't think it does, but http://sam.zoy.org/libcaca/ does
