BONE

Forum thread started by ronaldst on Sun, 2004-07-18 21:21

I went today at BeBits to get a Remote Desktop. No such luck. The other Remote Desktop client is using some weird X Windows trick from what I could read on the comments. :x

I want to try also the new IM kit but that also requires BONE. And the author doesn't seem to care about Net_server.

My question is why BONE instead of Net_Server? Where can I get BONE?

BONE is faster than Net Server. It's also a much more up-to-date implimentation of the network stack (if I understand correctly). So it should be more capable.

You can download BONE off of BeBits. That's whey I got it from anyway.

I believe it also contains additional APIs that help BeOS be more POSIX compliant making porting apps from *nix easier... - that's why some ported apps require it...

Thank you all for the info. :D

Ronald: Yes, you have to install X Window Server, but it works nicely. If I can do it almost anybody should be able to, and if not, well, e-mail me and I'll try to help. :)

As for IM...I recommend Hermod and a good Jabber account. :)

The RDP app you linked requires BONE. Which I didn't have when I posted the top post.

And yes, X is bad.

Ok, this is the most common source for the leaked stuff from Be:

(links removed by user )

Btw, EVERYONE should "upgrade" to BONE. There are various exploits in net_server, just search the web. The answer from Be at that time was WILL_NOT_FIX (yeah, you are reading it right - or maybe was something like it? ) with the comment "The entire network stack will be replaced soon" (a-ha! gotch'ya! ). So, make an appointment.

Baaaaddd to the bbboonnneee

I went home... hooooommeeeee...

(Good mood today :D )

But for those of us trying to stay legal, at least X works.

Just for now! Just for now!

BONE

Believe or not, I myself dropped BONE and everything that leaked soon after my last post. There was no reason for that software to came out and if came, well I just my system to be as "clean" as possible and develop using it, even if I have to deal with a couple of problems.

Here is friday, April 1st, 03:16. The next Monday will be a very nice day.

BONE

I don't use BONE and never have, net_server works fine for me, until Haiku replace it.
