Haiku and multiple cpu's

Forum thread started by KantosKan on Fri, 2013-11-08 01:54

Hello,
Does anyone know if there are any computers for which Haiku recognizes 4 or more cpu's ? I have only seen it indicate 2 cpu's in the icon display, even though the Intel iMac on which I run Haiku has two double-core cpu's. Way back in 1997 I saw a demo of BeOS running on a BeBox with 8 cpu's. The performance was incredible. More than 16 years later Apple and Microsoft still can't compare with that demo. I would love to get an 8 cpu machine for Haiku, or even 4.

Re: Haiku and multiple cpu's

Do you run Haiku natively on your Intel iMac or as a VM under Parallel for instance?
Under a VM system, most often not all physical cores are virtualized by default.

If it's natively, please consider filling a bug report with your iMac CPU specs and if possible your "syslog" content or "sysinfo" output attached.

Prekrasno ! Thanks ! It's just what I'm looking for.
I have some concerns about the Intel i7, though.
Apparently it has a secret back door for spying.

Re: Haiku and multiple cpu's

Hello, I run Haiku R1 alpha4 natively on my Intel iMac. Is it possible that a config file can be changed to make it recognize all 4 cores ?

Welcome to the Haiku shell.

Re: Haiku and multiple cpu's

Thanks. I finally realize there is only 1 CPU on that iMac, with 2 cores. Time for a new computer. I spent the whole day experimenting with that new build of alpha4, installing and comparing with the alpha4 release. It boots very nicely on my iMac, but Paladin will *not* install under it. I use Paladin 90% of the time. For some reason my iMac will no longer boot into alpha4 at all. It freezes after the Deskbar is launched. I eventually re-installed alpha2!
