Kernel crash with synaptics touchpad

hi - i downloaded the 2nd April 2011 gcc 2 hybrid nightly build and ran it on my Acer Aspire One netbook (intel atom dual core / intel gma500 integrated graphics / atheros wifi / 1GB ram). The build booted into the desktop gui then immediately failed and opened a kdebug terminal window with details of a kernel panic. The error listed the synaptics touchpad as well as a reference to ps2 mouse support. I booted twice with the same message.

However, if I run the alpha 2 release build, it works without any issues, but I am unable to get atheroswifi support going (which is why I was hoping to run the nightly build instead).

Is there a particular nightly build you would recommend running, or a reliable method I can use to enable my atheros wifi?

Thanks - and keep up the good work - I am a big fan of Haiku, its the (almost) perfect os for my netbook.

Clemens made some changes to this, in where he states 'I hope Synaptics Touchpads still work'. Well your's doesn't, and did.

Do you know if there's anyway I can get my netbook's Atheros wifi working?

I am guessing it's unusable due to lack of PCMCIA support, but if anyone knows a workaround, it would be much appreciated.

I experienced this kernel panic as well when I updated the system recently, but it appeared very infrequently. Now I had a camera near to take a shot. The ticket is at https://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/7431. Feel free to add more info there, JM.

I don't think PCMCIA is supported at all currently. I have a netbook with a working Atheros chipset, but that one is onboard.

Hi,

Actually I now have a netbook with onboard Atheros Wifi - I've tried the steps in the docs (Daily tasks), but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Is there a particular set of steps I should follow to get my Atheros wifi working (I'm probably missing a step, or not installing the drivers correctly)?

WRT the synaptics crashing, Clemens has worked on that ticket and it looks like r41190 has fixed it. You may want to update to a nightly with these changes.

No idea about your wifi troubles. I use an atheros chipset in a netbook that connects to an unencrypted network out of the box. So no additional firmware installation or configuration is needed.
