New guy here

Forum thread started by dupek on Sun, 2011-02-13 19:21

I read some posts related to AMD. I have e-machine ET1352G. I installed on my second HD and( for Alpha) work OK. I am not expecting, at this stage, to have everything working. What works on my computer:
Installation went fine, video works better that on some Linux distro, no sound, did recognize some USB
devices (flash drive, printer(HP DescJet 1000). Can not get recognize usb external cd/dvd(Liteon). Did recognize my external USB HD. The print server not working ( will not send signal to printer).
My BIOS let me boot from second HD.My primary is win7 x64. I did run it under the vmbox, but the v4.0.2 have screw up the USB. To fully test it - have to be installed on HD.
I am still confuse about the installation packages. It will come with time. It is a new( to me) OS and have to learn. In summary - for Alpha - look and runs good. Looking forward to Beta version.
I will hook-up my Canon printer and will let you know all about. I have Canon digital camera (T1i) and would like to see this working.

Re: New guy here

Alpha 2 is old. Most people use nightly image now. Talk is going on about Alpha 3 release which could happen in the next 3 to 4 months.

Alpha 2 is lacking newer features and bug fixes. Better printer support came after Alpha 2 with Gutenprint. Plus many other changes.

Nightly image is better to see the latest version of the OS. You may want to try out Alpha for 3 or so weeks to test out and learn with first.

If you look at the mailing list it might be as early as mid march.

You're right. Alpha 3 could happen in March or April. Not sure why I was saying 3 or 4 months. Feeling kinda out of it today. Good chance will happen in 1 to 2 months but no release date set or given yet.

lol :) You got that right!

Here I am with Haiku on a Virtualbox on WinXP.
People say networking is not working, on Vbox, but as you can see it is.
Need only to change settings for type of NIC.

Re: New guy here

I wish the R3 would come sooner... But I am pleased to hear that the next version will be out soon.
I have a question. Will Gnash be installable through installoptionalpackage ?
This is a plugin that many people need.

Re: New guy here

I had network working in vmbox too. Just had to find correct settings. Running in vmbox will not give to you the real indication of what is working and what not. I could not get the USB working under vmbox, but works fine on real installation. To me, running OS in virtual box, is like having virtual sex. I prefer the real thing. I had osx leopard working in virtual box, but could not get it running in real set-up on hd.
