No sound on Dell Inspiron B120

Hi guys! I'm brand new to this OS and I've got it set up on my Dell Inspiron B120 laptop. Everything's working nicely so far except for the sound. I can play wave sounds but nothing actually comes out of the speakers. Midi music files return a "MediaConverter" error.

Here's what I got from listdev:

device Multimedia controller (Audio device) [4|3|0]
vendor 8086: Intel Corporation
device 2668: 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller

When I ask for the audio driver in the terminal it says "hmulti."

Strangely, when I go to Media preferences, HD Audio, Output, it only says "Left Headphones." And yes, I tried plugging in headphones to no avail.

Any idea what's wrong here? Is the built-in driver just not compatible with my integrated audio? Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: No sound on Dell Inspiron B120

What you need to do is remove the native sound drivers and install Opensound from terminal.

Installoptionalpackage -a opensound. That should get it working. similar chipset to my laptop which does not play audio with the native driver.

to find the native driver, I wanna says its in

boot/system/add-ons/drivers/media

IIRC.

That worked. Thanks! At least wave sounds work. Gotta tackle midi music next.
