Problem first time installing the OS
Hi All,
I've created an image CD which appears to boot OK. I have an old W2K drive that I want to use for the OS. I don't want to keep W2K, just overwrite it with Haiku.
After the CD boots I do get the splash screen OK but then an error at the top of the screen saying "No bootable partitions found!"
The disk is bootable, just occupied with the old W2k, what should I do to make this hard disk usable with Haiku?
Thanks!

Re: Problem first time installing the OS
Your question is a little confusing. What do you mean by the "splash screen"? Are you sure you are booting from the CD? The CD should be able to boot even if the harddrive is completely empty.
What do you mean by "after the CD boots"? Do you see the Haiku "loading icons" or the desktop and mouse cursor?
Is the "no bootable partitions found" message black-on-white (a Haiku messag) or white-on-black (a BIOS message)?
What Haiku image are you using?
Re: Problem first time installing the OS
I, too, am having this issue.
1. Downloaded Haiku Alpha 1
2. Burn ISO to CD (CD-R disc).
3. Boot from CDROM on computer.
4. Get to Haiku screen with icons. First 3 or 4 icons are highlighted.
5. Then, after a few moments, black and white message at top of screen
stating "Could not find any boot partitions." It's prolly KDL message.
6. Only 1 IDE Hard drive in computer (60GB).
In my case, I have 1 partition on the hard drive (all 60GB) with BeOS 5.03 installed.
I also have old BeOS Boot Manager installed, as well.
Not sure if message is stating that it cannot find boot partition on CD or Hard Drive?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Re: Problem first time installing the OS
I am guessing you both are booting off the CD.
The ISO has two parts to it. A haiku boot image & OS part. The boot image is starting and working but having trouble locating or reading the OS part of the ISO. (my guess).
You can try safe mode - pressing [space bar] when booting. Tell it to boot from CD. Try disabling DMA. See if that works. Could be your CD-ROM drive does not know how to handle the OS part?
You should also search & file a bug for this issue here.
http://dev.haiku-os.org
ISO has haiku boot image + haiku and few extra directories.
Re: Problem first time installing the OS
Try the CDs in other computers to see if they are working and readable (booting). Could be bad burn and should rule it out.
Try burning images on higher quality CD media & slower speed (8X) to see if that helps.
Re: Problem first time installing the OS
I had a problem like this, but from the USB version. Try disabling 'Plug and Play OS' in your BIOS. This may be to do with Interrupt management.
