[Resolved]Can Haiku have more than one partition?

Forum thread started by jazzi on Wed, 2013-08-14 00:07

Hi,

I'm new to here and after reading the User Guide, I have a question before installing it.

  • I am wandering how many partitions does Haiku need?
  • No need of Swap partition?
  • No need of /boot/home partition?

Could someone shed more sunshine on this subject?

Many thanks,
jazzi

Re: Can Haiku have more than one partition?

I'm not an expert but you don't need any particular partitions. Haiku manages everything on its own. BeOS was fully dynamic, that was the beauty of it.

Re: Can Haiku have more than one partition?

Haiku requires one main partition (like OS X or Windows), there is a swap file that can be placed on another partition if there's need for it. Not by default.

Re: Can Haiku have more than one partition?

Haiku just needs a single partition. You can attach any number of disks, though. Placing /boot/home on another partition can only be achieved using symbolic links at this point, and is currently neither officially supported nor tested.

Thanks for all the replies.
It's easier to take care of just one partition, as long as BeOS file system is solid enough.
