Site Design Comments

Hey, the site looks great.

Two suggestions:

1. Recreate the front page banner with much much less JPEG compression.

2. Make the Haiku logo on the top an integrated part of the banner image on the forum pages to avoid the white halos around the leaves in the logo.

Please also:

- add appropriate alt text (or blank alt text for decorative imagess

- preferably strip the links of any extraneous junk - see Tim B-L's rant from a good few years back.. /learn.php would be cleaner as /learn or /learn/ ; /learn.php?mode=faq_normal would be cleaner as /learn/faq/ ; then /learn/faq/3 and so forth. Pretty much what's in the <title> of those pages at present. I'd be very happy to help code this , it's very easy in Apache, without breaking old links, and so can change the pages piecewise over time.

- Most importantly, colour and underline links, otherwise we're left scrubbing about to see where the links are. See Neilsen's recent article on the matter

Staunch new site in many regards though - top stuff. Sorry to nitpick.

Common sense can replace underlining of links, IMHO. I'd go even a step further in cleanness and remove the dotted boxes around each link that now briefly show up after clicking.

Can be done with this:

onFocus="blur()"

I find it shocking that accessing this site with NetPositive results in an "unsupported browser" message.

Leaf logo on forum looks great now! Really slick!

Bertrand: I'm not sure if it was this way before, but it lets you in anyway now, and it looks pretty darn good for an unsupported browser (especially compared to the unformatted mess Net+ displays for many web sites nowadays.)

imho the site looks clean and sharp.

But the forum theme sucks. I just can't see a damn thing in this. Plus it doest totally not fit with the rest of the website.

Think clean.

Forum theme

I cannot yet get the alternative forum themes to load.

There are too many blue themes in phpBB.

Unfortunately it is one of the worst colors to try and see on screen,
let alone work with for hours everyday...
...it is bad for eyes and monitors.

Please bear in mind people with eyesight difficulty...
...Photophobia from Cerebral Malaria,Encephaliltis,
and so on still use computers.

I never gave up my work in medical research or graphic design,
just moved to darker and more relaxing gui elements.

The front page of the site itself is however fine for me

Oops, one more area that needs a non-white background: the text menu items across the top there. "Forum Index Profile Private Messages," etc. have white halos around them and are a little hard to read. Black text color might be good, too.

Thanks for fixing the logo on the top. Looks great now. The image on the site's front page still needs less JPEG compression. We can wait a second for it to load. It's about half a KB right now, so pump it up a bit ;-)

Re: Site Design Comments

My recommend is to move Event Highlights off the main page. It is hardly every used and
yet is takes up valuable front page real estate.
