Haiku Tech Talk at Google a Success
Yesterday was our big day at Google, and we can say with a good degree of confidence that the Haiku Tech Talk was quite successful. We had a very special guest for this event: former Be Inc. CEO Jean Louis Gassée, not only joined us at Google for our presentation, but also gave a few words of support and encouragement for our project. It was great to have JLG's presence, as well as that of the several ex-Be engineers who showed up for the talk. We were also glad to see JAVA for BeOS developer Andrew Bachman join us for this special event. Take a look at the pictures taken during the presentation. A video of the full presentation will be posted on the web later this week; we will post the link here when it becomes available.

good news
did the people say/do anything but listen? Would be great if googleOs = haiku :)
All right!!
Well done people! What should one say nowadays, kuddo's/tumbs up?
RE: Haiku Tech Talk at Google a Success
I wasn't expecting to see Gassée in the pictures. I hope it raises Haiku/BeOS popularity in the Open Source world ten fold. ^^
Great
... simply just great.
I hope there will be a full report (and maybe a new newsletter soon).

Congrats
Thanks indeed for the 'Haiku Tech Talk', it'll bring my favorite project into the spotlight :)
I'am also glad to see JLG is still alive ;)
ATTENDANCE WAS VERY LOW?
I did not see more then a handfull of people in the audience :(
cc?
will the video be released under some creative-commons license, so we can all share and enjoy?
b.
Wow! JLG....
did he have a ticket to get in? No, seriously though, this is all good news. Especially in the wake of the SCALE 5 expo.

Ah, the picture of Jorge and me...
Wow, I didn't realize I had such a goofy look on my face when that was taken :D
Attendance...
The picture you must be referring to is the "Answering questions" picture. It's important to note that many of the people sat in the very back of the room (many of them eating food while watching).
The group you see huddled at the front there consisted mostly of the ex-Be people ;)
That's okay, Jorge looks
That's okay, Jorge looks drunk! :p
Glad it went well. Did there seem to be some genuine interest on the part of the Google engineers?
Dang
I just love hearing JLG talk, his calm voice and cool accent makes me really alert and willing to listen.
How did you manage to get him there?
btw Is the ex Be engineers allowed by their NDA with palm to contribute to haiku? If they would be allowed im sure they could help out alot with knowhow and so on, so that the haiku-team didnt have to do any of their misstakes (if any) with the BeOS.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to the Haiku team for pulling off such a high-visibility event! I was thinking of you all day, wondering how things were going. I truly wish my "day job" hadn't taken me out of the state. I'd love to have attended. Again, my heartfelt congratulations to the team for this effort.
Cool!
Good stuff guys, I'm glad things went so well. I wish I could have attended and met some of the icons of the good old BeOS days.
I think the recent publicity events are great. Keep it up!
Very great news!!!
WOW!!! Jean-Louis Gassée is a very pleasant surprise! I just wonder why didn't you shared with us his words of support.
Felicidades
Mucha suerte
Good news & Good Vibes
It is great to see that Haiku is getting in the spotlight thanks to you guys, but even better, that you got to merge past and present !!
I am sure that it has been quite a wile since so many ex-Be Inc. folks got together ;) And it has happened thanks to Haiku !!
That shows that they like that we kept the torch burning and that we love so so much what they created that they are happy of being reverse-engineered by such wonderful people ;) !!
Thanks you Haiku Team.
Muchas Gracias a todos y que la fuerza este con vosotros !

Google Summer of Code 2007 is on!

Does this mean that Haiku has a chance of participating in the program?
Very nice presentation! I
Very nice presentation!
I downloaded an Haiku VM to test it and it's a really nice idea for an OS.
I keep an eye on this project.
Google Videos are pretty horrible...
Unless I'm doing something wrong (my LCD has a native resolution of 1280x1024), the video quality of the HaikuOS-related videos is absolutely horrible. Well, maybe not at the native resolution of... 320x200, maybe 640x480? But Google blows them up to nearly full screen and then they're so pixelated, it's nearly impossible to tell what I'm even looking at!
Is there a setting at GoogleVideos that shrinks the videos down to normal size or am I doomed to forever watch pixelated blobs of color, claimed as being watchable videos?
