Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
As another avenue to spread awareness of the Haiku project, the Haiku project has opened a store for official Haiku merchandise at CafePress. Find T-shirts, mousepads, coffee mugs, and more! Most items are sold at Haiku's cost and any proceeds go directly to Haiku. Read more for how you can contribute designs for the store. What's more is that this is a community-driven effort. Got a great idea for Haiku stuff? Here are the guidelines:
- Send us a link to the proposed design through our online contact form (login required).
- Designs should be attractive and avoid objectionable content (off-color remarks, obscenities, etc.)
- All accepted submissions become property of Haiku, Inc. This is just to avoid legal troubles.
- Design approval decisions of the Haiku project are final.
- Acceptable file formats for submissions are Adobe Illustrator, EPS, and SVG.
- Suggestions for the types of merchandise for the design are encouraged (mugs, mouse pads, messenger bags, posters, etc.).
There will also be a page dedicated to information about the store on our website in the near future.

Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
Very cool :D
I'm glad you've got polo shirts - I think I'll be getting myself one of those to wear at work!
A mug would be good too...
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
I prefer the FalterCon Value T-shirt. Plus the money goes directly to me.
I'm hoping to sell four more. So I can actually receive a check for twenty dollars. That's right, a four dollar mark-up. It was originally going to be a one-off parody shirt for the San Francisco WalterCon.

Why the change of heart ? I thought Michael Phipps hated the idea of Café Press because they charge too much.
It really was near-sighted not to have a store sooner. I don't remember any other type of clothing or mug option, but I remember Michael talking about printing shirts somewhere cheaper, but I don't think he was referring to WalterCon shirts. Does the small preview look a little dark to you ?
If the value shirt option is anything like some of the Waltercon shirts, I suggest you lower your price a couple of dollars. The material is a little too thin. Two words: Phipps' nips !
P.S. Stop taking my good ideas ! ;-)
P.P.S Urias, you traitor !
/will probably get a stein for Coke

P.P.S Urias, you traitor !
LOL! What? I said I'd buy one of your shirts for the novelty (but not to actually wear!) ;)
Even if the price is high on the Haiku shirts, it's still donation to the project. I think I paid $25 for the original Haiku T-shirt that I got - so these are actually a bargain assuming they are at least equal quality. I knew I was donating money to the project, so I didn't mind so much :)
For me, the collared polos are perfect... I still wear polo shirts with my old company's logo on them at work - cuz my current company hasn't provided any for me to wear - so if I start rotating a Haiku shirt in, that would be perfect!
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
Excellent. Ordered 2 large Mugs already. Mouse pads and posters are a must. Add them too.
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
About bloody time. Placed money where mouth was.
$77 to Haiku. Ka-ching.
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
The change of heart was because it isn't being done as a fundraiser -- it's just so we have something we can brag about Haiku with. With the exception of the T-shirts, the items are being raised to the next full dollar amount or a little more. If you really want to get some bang for your buck on a basic, white T-shirt, go to http://haiku-os.org/community/donating_to_haiku . They are also $20, but I *think* shipping is included (I'm probably wrong on that one, but possibly not), but more money goes to Haiku. BTW, if you don't like one type of T-shirt, get a different one -- they all cost the same. :)
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
Mousepads have been added, but a poster needs to be more than just the logo. Any takers on submissions?
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
Please, can we have some badges?
(Also known as buttons to some strange people)
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
A Custom Wall Calendar can be effective too (and there's still enough time to make one for 2008):

Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
Just added badges and a couple of magnets. I would need community submissions for a calendar -- I don't have nearly enough stuff to do one right now. Perhaps we, as a community, could put together a 2008 Haiku calendar? The nice thing about those is that you can make something similar to a desktop wallpaper and you have a picture for one of the months.
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
A calendar might be seen as too unsexy, but if nevertheless there are enough people interested in the concept I can imagine a diverse but coherent calendar, representing things like Haiku's development process, heritage, community (spirit), niftyness etc., in-between some months with beautiful finished wallpaper-like images to relax with.
(Starting point can just be: remember any same-type calendars you've used and why you got bored by some and not by other ones of them)
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
Me again. I personally dont like the idea of a white mouse pad. It just seems like it wont survive the real world test. A blue mouse pad, however, now thats another $12 to promote Haiku.
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
"As another avenue to spread awareness"
Personally i think adding "www.haiku-os.org" somewere whould help that goal a bit more
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
Coasters, magnets and mouse pads... Ordered!!! Cool.. need more for my collection :-)
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
I like the idea of a calander, however, I think it could be better. Make it a free one that could be downloaded and printed. Definitely would have more exposure. I would hang one at work where nobody knows about Haiku. The picture content could be a little less critical since it would be a free download instead of something someone paid money for.
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
I agree, and another advantage would in that case be that there's control over the calendar's dimensions as well as over the layout (+ infos) of the lower half.
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
How about a Black or Dark Blue Polo/Golf shirt option?
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
Can we get case badges? I would love to put a case badge on my PC!
Haiku merchandise ...
It's interesting to see Haiku merchandise. However, to see merchandise before the actual product is a bit ... uhm ... Why don't you post an alpha/beta ISO of Haiku so that users can actually try out the OS (even if it's not 105% ready ...)? That would be much more interesting.
Re: Haiku merchandise ...
Anyone can download a current vmware image from the build factory to see how far the OS come already.
The stuff at CafePress is merchandise for the project "Haiku", which does actually exist (and has been going on for exactly 6 years tomorrow, BTW). :)
Re: Haiku merchandise ...
Well, I don't use VM Ware, and I don't intend to use it. As I said, even an alpha/beta ISO image would be better.
You can't really separate the "project haiku" from Haiku, can't you? Ok, you can, but it means splitting hairs ;)
Re: Haiku merchandise ...
There will be an official alpha image as soon as the project has decided that milestone has been reached. Right now we're still pre-alpha.
But I don't even have to split hairs. :)
There actually is an OS named Haiku, that runs (pretty decently I may add) for people that don't mind running vmware or that are able to run it natively.
Anyway, Haiku fans have long been wishing for some kind of shop to get shirts and stuff. Before the OS loaded into a GUI even, IIRC.
Now it's here, so it's all good.
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
We don't have badges @ the CafePress store (nor can we), but you could custom order one from somewhere else.
Links to the badges themselves can be found at http://www.freelists.org/archives/openbeos/05-2007/msg00450.html
If you search for "case badges" on Google or whatever, you can find different places. CaseArts.com, for example, lets you order them.
As for other choices (blue or black polo shirt), CafePress doesn't offer that choice, but I'm in the process of setting up Spreadshirt stores both for US and EU. They do offer non-white polo shirts, so just sit tight for a bit. :)
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
You can already install a Haiku image (which is located right next to the VMWare image, it is just a raw image) onto a hard disk partition. To do this, just mount the disk image (ie. from BeOS/Zeta, run the following from the terminal:
mountimage haiku-image
copy all the files from the mounted image onto a Be File System partitioned disk (ie. from BeOS/Zeta, run Installer, then DiskSetup).
Make sure you have a boot manager (ie. bootman) which sets boot target.
Reboot into Haiku.
But I'm pretty sure that that is not what you wanted. If you want a bootable CD which can also be an install CD, they are also very easy to create under BeOS. But the OS is not ready yet for mass distribution, the Haiku devs are working on getting the product to 100% usability. We are sick of the Linux constant-update-cycle (this OS is not Gentoo). Until Haiku is 100%, you will not see a an easily downloadable Haiku CD from this website.
VMWare images, and RAW disk images do an excellent job of filtering out the users who are not yet ready for Haiku.
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
Seriously, this isn't a very good place to discuss whether Haiku should distribute a CD or not...
I would recommend taking this discussion to a forum post or something.
"filtering the users who are not yet ready for Haiku"
He, should be the other way around.
Anyway, I found an ISO (from October 2006, I think) somewhere and burned it to CD. I could boot, and even the desktop appeared. I just was not able to do anything since neither mouse nor keyboard worked. Maybe someone is interested in this (well, I am ...) and would like to find out just why ... Is there any console mode during the boot process? Otherwise it's hard to find out, isn't it?
Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
Hm, at the moment I don't have BeOS or Zeta. BeOS does not boot on my machine, and I never bought Zeta. It would be very nice if all that was at least possible from Windows or Linux.

Re: Haiku Store Opens for Business and Community Contributions
Hey deb2006, This thread is for Haiku Store & Merchandise.
You shouldn't be discussing why BeOS doesn't work on your computer or about creating a Haiku Installer, etc. You're going off topic.
Like Urias said, take it to the forums and create a new forum post ( or the mailing lists ). I use the forums and can try to help you out there.
