Haiku Inc. is hiring - funds needed

The Haiku project rests on the shoulders of volunteer individuals who spend their free time developing, bughunting and in general advancing the system. Unfortunately everyone's time is limited and working for a living takes a major cut into what could be dedicated to Haiku work. It would be great if a developer could take off work for a few weeks to fully concentrate on Haiku development.

And this is exactly what we would like to make possible! Starting now:

Haiku Inc. is proud to announce that a long time project contributor has contacted us and will be hired to do contractual work on Haiku: Stephan Aßmus for 160 hours of development time.

For the past weeks he has already been working hard on Haiku's WebKit port and the basic browser (working title "HaikuLauncher"), the original and continuing work of Ryan Leavengood and Maxime Simon. For his contractual work he'll continue to focus on these areas. This should pave the way to include a nice little default browser in Haiku.

Since Haiku Inc. plans to do something like this more often in the future, we want to encourage other Haiku developers who are interested to submit contract proposals. Please keep in mind that we will not be paying competitive rates. Our intentions with hiring developers is to purchase time that would normally not be available for Haiku development. Therefore, the rates will only manage to compensate for the cost of living mostly.

Proposals should be sent to info@haiku-os.org or haiku-inc@freelists.org. In your proposal, please include:

  • length of contract
  • wage in USD
  • specific area of development
  • NOTE: Contract work is limited to developers that already gained repository commit access. With this limitation we try to maximize the return of investment, and push Haiku development forward more rapidly.

Most crucial however: To realize this plan, we depend on your donations! So, if you like the idea and want to speed up the development of Haiku, please show us your support!
