Haiku mentioned on XKCD; website stressed

Blog post by mmu_man on Fri, 2010-10-15 19:43

This morning I was welcome by a nice XKCD cartoon mentioning Haiku (as an experimental OS).
Several of us started twitting (rather, about it, proud as we were.
Then when getting back tonight we noticed the website was unreachable.
It really seems like it brought us quite a lot of unwaranted advertising! It's quite visible on the server stats:

Testing CSS Styles from Haiku User Guide

This is a sample of the CSS styles taken from the extraordinary work done by Humdinger on the Haiku User Guide. I am showcasing these here because I would like to use them throughout as well. If it turns out that there is no unsurmountable opposition to adopting these classes, I will eventually document them so that they can be used by those submitting news, blogs posts and documents to

This is just a very unthreatening little note. Don't be upset.
This may have serious consequences. Don't mess this up.
By golly, you better be sure what you're doing! Danger, Will Robinson!

Haiku Websites Stats and Other Trivia

I admit it: I have a weakness for website statistics. So late last year, I added Google Analytics (GA) to the Haiku website. GA gives you a wide array of information such as number of visits, page views, bounce rates, as well as geographic data and information related to the used operating systems. I wanted to get see this information myself, but I also wanted to share it with the community (don't worry, it's all anonymous data), so that everyone can get a peek at another and different metrics of how our project keeps growing over time. So here is a brief activity overview for the Haiku websites for the January thru March of 2008 period.

Trac is back

Hopefully, you noticed that Trac, our bug and task tracker, is back and has a new home: We switched our hosting provider and now everything works well and Trac is stable (as far as I know ;).

New Website Goes Live

We finally deployed the new website. Waldemar fixed at the last minute a bug that we discovered in one of Drupal's module, and we then asked Takidau to change the DNS settings. It was a long road. How long did it take? A bit more than 6 months? Much longer than I would have expected, I have to admit. But I think it is a good start. As some have already pointed out on the Haiku mailing list, there are still a few areas that need to be tweaked.

Getting ready to deploy

Blog post by koki on Fri, 2007-01-19 06:42

Today I finished making all the changes that had to be made after dropping the Drupal authorship.module; it was much more work than expected (I should have known), as all the articles belonging to authors that did not have an account had to be edited one by one. Well, it's done now, so all there is left before we can finally do the migrations is creating two pages: Contributing Content and Spreading the Word.
