Catkeys translators needed for 3rd party apps

Forum thread started by humdinger on Sat, 2015-05-30 06:26

Hello everyone!

This thread is supposed to connect developers with people that speak a different language and would like to help translate the GUI strings of an application. Please keep this thread clean with request/submission posts from devs/users and open a separate thread for any other discussion or questions. Thanks!

The developer

There's an article "Localizing an application" if you're unfamiliar with Haiku's system of localization.

A developer requesting a translation should provide:

  • App name
  • Weblink / Repo link
  • Already available translations
  • A link to the en.catkeys file (can be pasted via the form at sprunge.us, which keeps the important whitespace (space, tab) contrary to e.g. pastebin.com)

When you've received a translated catkeys file, you should open it in a text editor and replace the "English" of the top line to whatever the translated language is.
Don't forget to update your request post with the newly available translation.

The translator

You should install CatKeysEditor with the HaikuDepot app.

Get the en.catkeys file provided by the developer and rename it using the usual two-letter language code of the translation you are going to provide, e.g. 'fr.catkeys' for French.

Open your catkeys file in the CatKeysEditor and do your translation. Note: It's always a good idea to have the app you localize running while translating. You'll see where a string appears in the GUI and can sometimes figure in the layout of the app when choosing your words.

When you're done, send your translated catkeys file to the app's developer, or paste it via the form at sprunge.us, which keeps the important whitespace (space, tab) contrary to e.g. pastebin.com, and link to it from a comment.

Requests

I'll add all requested translations in this section. That way, they're always on top.

Forum FAQ's

Why won't my hotmail/yahoo/.ru email account work?
We've disabled hotmail and yahoo accounts along with e-mail accounts from .ru to cut down on forum spam. If it's really that big of a problem, email one of the administrators and we can work something out.

Source Activity not updated

Forum thread started by un_spacyar on Thu, 2015-07-09 04:52

Hello! The "Source Activity" section from the front page apparently doesn't have updates since a few dates.
(Of course, in the cgit page there are new commits)

Maybe something is broken?

Thank you!

BeBox for sale

Forum thread started by arougthopher on Tue, 2015-07-07 00:58

Would anyone be interested in buying my old BeBox? I have not booted it in a while, and will ensure it is functioning before i sell it, just looking to see if there is interest in it, otherwise it is going to get recycled.

Any chance of a beta release by the end of 2015?

Forum thread started by HaikuForever on Sun, 2015-07-05 13:47

Hi all,

the never-ending wait for the beta release is becoming sort of disheartening for so many of us.
Any chance that the first beta will be released by the end of this year?
If not, could you please give us a tentative timeframe?

Thanks

Word Processor for Haiku?

Forum thread started by twk amz on Sat, 2015-07-04 14:56

Hi, I was reading Haiku's FAQ and noticed there aren't any office suites for haiku. So I was wondering if there was a port of libreoffice(not likely) or some kind of word processor for haiku, preferably it should support MS's .doc format. Or, at least, if there's any plans to write(or port) one.

Help appreciated!

BeShare revisited

Forum thread started by Pete on Wed, 2015-07-01 22:02

The demise of BeBits and Haikuware was something of a shock, and started me thinking of possible alternatives. I'm not sure the Repositary -- when it gets into full gear -- will be a complete replacement. Seems to me it will be a lot more "formal" that the websites were.

Anyway, BeShare is an alternative that's been around forever -- if people would only make use of it. I admit that I never used it much myself -- the websites were much more convenient for finding stuff -- but now could it become a useful community? An advantage is that there's no "single-point-of-failure", as there are usually several muscle servers around that one can connect to. [And my thesis is of course being tested because TyCom has been down since yesterday!]

One thing that inhibited my use a bit was that I'd log in, do a query, and be faced with a long list of files, many of which I'd have no idea what they were. It struck me that if there was some way to add informational tags to files, it would help a lot. So I've updated the code a bit to provide that facility. It also seemed a bit of a limitation that custom icons were not shown in the query list -- only those supplied by the mimetype -- so I've added that, too.

The updated version -- or versions... there's one for Haiku and one for BeOS -- are available at:

http://www.goodeveca.net/BeShare

and I'll also try to keep them available a lot of the time on BeShare itself -- TyCom if it's running, one of the others if not.

I've bumped the version to "3.00", not because I think it's a startling advance, but because there are already others' Haiku-only versions 2.30 et seq...
