Fullscreen issue

Forum thread started by Denise Purple on Thu, 2010-02-18 22:05

Hello. I hope I am writing this in the right section. Anyway, does anybody know what the issue really is with fullscreen in Haiku? I have tried several console emulators which are all supposed to have fullscreen support, but when I try to use this function, all that happens is that the resolution is changed, and graphics get corrupted or out of place. The application window (with the title and menubar and all), along with the whole desktop, is still visible. This is quite annoying as playing in windowed mode doesn't really give you the same feeling. Here's an example of the issue: http://i48.tinypic.com/14eb9fs.jpg

That's generally what it looks like when trying to use something in fullscreen. I don't think it's hardware-specific, as I used to use Haiku with an nVidia card before, and now I'm using it with an ATI one. Same thing in VirtualBox too.

Thanks in advance.

Installing Haiku – not from CD, but from linux

Forum thread started by wilsonsamm on Tue, 2010-02-16 10:48

So I have been using Linux a long time now. After Windows 95 no longer did what I wanted, I switched to Linux. Actually, I have now have a new (second hand) computer – a small laptop for moving around. But the thing is, Linux doesn't boot very quickly for me. So I looked back at Haiku (back chronologically that is – I dabbled in it before and liked it a lot).

This laptop – I want Haiku on it. But it has no CD drive, so how can I install it? I'm on Gentoo Linux – which is always installed from another instance of a Unix-like operating system. Can it be done? Are there instructions somewhere?

GCC4 aborted compiles

Forum thread started by steveh on Sat, 2010-02-13 21:37

Has anyone else experienced a kind of random abort of GCC4 compilations?

I was building the last known supported BeOS config for the Icon programming language with gcc4 and I'd get that popup abort dialog from the compiler. But the funny thing is that it's not always occurring at the same place. The Icon programming language is a pretty generic compile with no special needs from an Unix-like OS and I did get through the entire build and have it working in the end.

Just wanted to post here to know if this is kinda common at this state of the Haiku development process. That is, is it probably an OS-related bug rather than a GCC4 bug?

If there's a common procedure others have used to track these kinds of problems down, I'd appreciate some pointers.

Thanks.

Haiku dev tools survey

Forum thread started by AndrewZ on Mon, 2010-02-08 16:40

Hi All,
I'm working on an article that brings together information for people coding applications for Haiku. It's aimed at people with coding experience who are new to Haiku. I would like to present a quick survey to understand what languages and coding tools people are currently using for Haiku. I have some idea but I would like to ask each of you to better understand.
There are 8 questions, and the whole survey will take you 1 - 2 minutes. Results are completely confidential and I will be the only person who will see the answers. I will post the results to this list when the results are in. If you have any questions before or after the survey please send them to me and I will do my best to answer them.
Thanks for your input!
