Installing Zeta in VMWare

Forum thread started by person15253849 on Thu, 2009-11-05 09:51

So I have like about 3 Haiku Machines in VMware, I want to install Zeta in one of them? I've already tried the install CD, but it doesn't detect the Disk and then screws the whole machine.

So, what configuration would I need? I'm trying to install Zeta 1.21.

I have only been able to find the Install CD - Still looking for a live cd. D:

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers,

Best dual-head gfx card for Haiku

Forum thread started by RhapsodyGuru on Thu, 2009-11-05 00:31

Hi...

What is the best Rudolf supported dual-head graphics card(s) available? Obviously it has to be from the GeForce 6 or 7 era to work with the driver. Also the card is going to have to be PCI Express and support two monitors at once. Any suggestions? I was looking at a GeForce 6200 dual-head PCIe card, but I think there might be a better option. Thanks!

New Haiku News ?

Forum thread started by Reyenweald on Wed, 2009-11-04 23:51

Hi all,
With BeGeistert finished and the first alpha out for a little while, is there any news/decisions taken on the way forward with Haiku that the developers decided on ? Major news, minor news ? any set date for a new project ?

Thanks.....

Haiku on iphone and other touch-enabled devices

Forum thread started by nonne on Wed, 2009-11-04 20:59

When the arm port is done, it would be nice if there would be a effort to port Haiku to the iphone and similar touchscreen devices. A special touchscreen adapted interface is required and drivers for touch input and accelerators too. A virtual keyboard is easy to make, but handwriting recognition is harder. Maybe a port of a open source handwriting recognition engine can be used to solve that. I really hope that this will become reality soon.

Kernel Debugging Land in Haiku: Your best of

Forum thread started by farvardin on Wed, 2009-11-04 05:26

While I find Haiku rather stable, I sometimes run into KDL. Unfortunately, most of the time, it's not possible to reproduce it (random KDL), but on the other hand it's often involving the same programs. So maybe we could try to trace the most common cases, and maybe open a bug in the tracker according to this.

I got KDL:
- Several times while renaming a file on a fat32 usb key (after reboot I could rename them correctly)
- Several times while accessing a .Trashes/501 folder on the same fat32 usb key (either by tracker or by the terminal, when trying to enter this folder or delete it). It did it every time I accessed this folder, so it's probably a persistent bug, even though I haven't tested it on another usb key (it's a fat32 usbkey I'm using on Linux too, the reason for the .Trashes folder)
- Trying to run a makefile on a fat32 FS.

So most of the time it was when accessing a fat32 FS (I understood the advice to mount the usb key in Read mode only, but I need it to synchronise and save my files onto my linux system, since ext2 is not supported), but fortunately:
- it never happened while normally editing and saving a text file on this FS.
- it never led to data corruption, on the contrary to mac os x which erased everying on a fat32 usb drive when it couldn't read a file from it...

The only other KDL I got while not accessing a fat32 FS was:

- Twice or three times while reading or closing a pdf written in my home or on the desktop. (after reboot I could read / close them correctly)

VESA vs Rudolf nVidia driver

Forum thread started by RhapsodyGuru on Tue, 2009-11-03 18:10

Hi...

What is the major difference(s) between the VESA display driver and Rudolf's nVidia driver? Is the Rudolf one a 2D accelerated driver? What else is special about it? I am currently running on a GeForce 6150 chipset. Thanks!

Server dual-socket mobo support

Forum thread started by RhapsodyGuru on Tue, 2009-11-03 16:35

Hey...

I am looking at a really cheap ASUS server mobo. I was thinking of getting one to build a cheap Haiku workstation. Are the specs supported well enough? I mean can I even use two physical CPUs and will Haiku recognize both? Also, will the VESA driver support the integrated onboard video chipset (ATI Rage XL w/ 8MB VRAM)? Just curious.

Thanks.
