General Haiku Discussion

Here you can talk about anything relating to Haiku.

gcc4 and gcc2

Forum thread started by spiraleyes on Thu, 2014-08-07 05:35

I am just getting into learnng to program on Haiku, and notice a lot going on about having 2 different gcc suites. I'm wondering why they are both used? And which is better? If one is better, shouldn't we just use that? Most importantly, how do I decide which to use for my own programs?

Since I know nothing of the difference, I stick to the gcc2 hybrid images for nightlies.

Usage of donations

Forum thread started by spiraleyes on Tue, 2014-08-05 08:48

Hi, I was just curious, how is the donation money being spent, other than the large chunk for PulkoMandy's work? I like to think my money helps, but it would be nice to get an idea of where it goes.

Thanks

Old BeOS people files in Haiku

Forum thread started by CypressTwist on Sun, 2014-08-03 13:51

I have a bunch of old BeOS people files and copied them in Haiku. The thing is, even though they open up with the People app, they don't show their attributes in Tracker. Is this normal?

Computer Compatibility List

Forum thread started by apgreimann on Sat, 2014-08-02 23:57

I noticed that we do not have an official list of computers that are known to work with Haiku. Rather than just a HCL, I thought I’d start this list with the computers I have tested Haiku on and that others can contribute to and add their computers to as well!

My sincere hope is that this list will help both the Haiku development team in general and to see where to best focus their efforts, as well as to help new users see how well their prospective computer(s) will work with the Haiku OS.

Important note: When/if you test a model and wish to add it, please put it in this format or similar to make it easy for others to read and understand:

Fooware Desknote H2014 (i.e. your model)
Processor: x86/x86_64/ARM/etc.
Version: Nightly h####-(gcc type), (or R1-Alpha#)
Comments: Whatever you notice... but please keep it within a few lines! Also, if you have a computer you've (re)built yourself or unusual hardware in it, please make a note of that as well.

Thank you for reading the above info. The full list can be found in the posts below, or at the following site where I mirror a copy: http://www.landoftheleaves.org/p/compatibility-list.html

Functional programming support in Haiku

Forum thread started by zadkielmodeler on Fri, 2014-08-01 12:37

So, I after starting to use Haiku, I decided I wanted to use it for programming mostly. I was hoping I could do something in addition to C/C++

I want to learn either Haskell or Erlang, though I am open to other suggestions as well. But I am not sure if there are any developer tools for it. Niue and Paladin both look like C/C++ IDE's.

What are my options for functional programming on Haiku?
