General Haiku Discussion

Last week I started work on a port of Qt 5.3.1.
Already there has been some progress.

1. First native QPA test
2. Simple mouse handler
3. Qt Designer
4. Simple keyboard mapper and fusion style for controls
5. QtWebKit demo browser
6. Otter-browser

All Qt5 modules successfully builded except QtQuick 2.0 and WebKit2. They require support OpenGL in QPA plugin. I have never worked with OpenGL and have no idea where to start. We need to implement a few functions to create an OpenGL context. If there is a wish to help with OpenGL - you are welcome.

The code will be available on github soon.

I'd like to take an informal vote of Haiku users regarding the future disposition of the CDPlayer application included with Haiku. Currently CDPLayer cannot directly play CD audio on SATA drives because the audio cable that used to connect to the motherboard or directly to the sound card on older IDE drives has become obsolete. New drives no longer include such a cable - and many newer sound cards no longer have a provision for such a cable.
I feel that CDPlayer app should be dropped and the functionality merged into Haiku MediaPlayer. I don't see any point in including an app whose functionality has been obsolete since at least 2007.

I'd like to know, what's the best way to update Haiku system from newer nightly images, without constant re-installing, or is Haiku Depot already capable of system update (or will it ever be)?

I have two laptops and my windows laptop is on it's last leg, and my other laptop I installed Haiku on (just as like a messing around computer)is pretty much going to be my backup. However, I need a functioning word processor if I am to use the laptop for college, otherwise I guess I'm stuck in the computer lab, which is fine, but less convenient.
