English - Russian Translater: Anyone?

Forum thread started by Kevin Ar18 on Sat, 2007-11-03 02:50

Can anyone here translate English to Russian and vice versa, really well?
I'd like to get in touch with a developer who only speaks Russian... and depending on the situation, may need someone to continue to translate so people can work together. Can anyone here help? If so, how do I contact you?

Haiku natively on these machines?

Forum thread started by phatpenguin on Thu, 2007-10-25 19:39

I am involved in a new e-commerce endeavour called PressButton computing, dealing in the building of computers for purpose, rather than building fairly general machines and cross-selling.

We will be building our own laptops, and as with our desktops, unless the customer asks for an OS we will be shipping with FreeDOS and nowt much else - my question is, is Haiku likely to work natively on machines of this spec: http://shop.pressbuttoncomputing.co.uk/epages/es106145.sf/en_GB/?ObjectP...

If so, how long until a live Release so we can ship with Haiku?

POSIX compliance

Forum thread started by Leaflord on Sun, 2007-10-21 14:02

Hi,
This is a normal question I have out of curiousity. I was looking at the presentation by Niels at T-DOSE and it said that Haiku has partial POSIX compliance. Why is that so? Do we have to remove some parts of POSIX in order to keep the OS modern or is it just that it hasn't been implemented completely yet?

Haiku under QEMU

Forum thread started by sean on Sun, 2007-10-14 18:06

Since I was having troubles getting Haiku to work under Parallels, I decided to give QEMU under Mac OS X (i.e. "Q") a try. I'm happy to report that it was a bit easier to get it up and running in that emulator, though I did have to make sure QEMU was set to emulate only a single-processor machine. Any SMP setting would cause bootup to hang at the startup screen.

Leaving networking enabled seemed to work as well, as did selecting either of the two video options. The disk image had to be renamed with a .img suffix for QEMU to recognize it, but then had no problems after that.

Cheers!
Sean

Native Haiku without max?

Forum thread started by mattlacey on Sun, 2007-10-14 09:18

Hey guys,

I really want to try out Haiku natively, though I'm in a bit of a sticky spot because my disk currently has 3 partitions using the full disk - and NTFS partition for XP, then an ext3 and swap partition for Ubuntu. I downloaded the latest Max ISO (I do own R5 Pro!) and wanted to boot from that and remove Ubuntu completely, only for some reason my laptop won't boot from the CD - it just doesn't seem to think it's bootable at all, I tried the floppy image on a USB drive and that didn't work either so it looks like I can't boot max.

I could install from Ubuntu but first I'd have to resize the ext 3 partition or reinstall Ubuntu or another distro but I don't want to use up all my bandwidth allocation from the month. Any good ideas?

Cheers folks :)

Is there an idea on when Haiku will have an official release? Something that can be burned to a cd?
