Deciding for Haiku R2

Forum thread started by reallyjoel on Wed, 2007-07-18 23:48

Haiku is getting closer and closer to R1, which is great. But unless we (you..=) know where we want to go with R2, the project will come to a stand-still after R1 completion. Also, if there's no strong will and direction from the core members before R1 completion, there's a risk of branching, which is something we don't want.

So maybe I'm just out of the loop, and there's already a strong vision for R2, but in that case, then all of us "bystanders" are out of the loop, because there's nothing on the website, and the glass elevator mailing list is just a stream of suggestions, no compilation of ideas or something cohesive.

Haiku Drivers for BeOS/Bone/Zeta?

Forum thread started by stickman on Fri, 2007-07-06 06:29

Has anyone posted the Haiku drivers compiled for any stable version of BeOS? Specifically, I'm looking for an Audigy driver that will work on my system (card ID is 0x7).

Thanks in advance,

Haiku OpenGL

Forum thread started by ModeenF on Mon, 2007-07-02 07:53

I have some questions

1. Can I copy the OpenGL lib from the Haiku image and use it on BeOS/Zeta?
2. What files do I need and are the add-ons/opengl right place for the OpenGL "addons" (don't know what to call them)?

Larger BFS harddrive images for VMWare Player

Forum thread started by PieterPan on Fri, 2007-06-29 14:16

Hey,

I've created some empty bfs harddrive images that you can use to store large files in a place that is easily accessible from Haiku. These will not disappear when you test a new Haiku revision in VMWare Player. (see http://haiku-os.org/downloads/ )

http://www.panman.eu/haiku/empty_bfs_images.zip

Steps:
1) Pick an image you would like to use (2, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20 gigabytes) Don't worry, they will only take up space when you start using them.
2) Place it in the same directory as where you have your haiku.vmdk and haiku.vmx
3) Add these lines to your haiku.vmx: (make sure you replace ide0:1.present = "FALSE")

ide0:1.present = "TRUE"
ide0:1.fileName = "--- replace with your image name ---"
ide0:1.deviceType = "disk"
ide0:1.mode = "persistent"

nooob question about which BeOS?

Forum thread started by iamnotmad on Thu, 2007-06-28 13:24

Hi all, please forgive the noob question. I am wondering what is currently the best BeOS (actual/derivative) to install.

It's probably important to note that I will probably be installing this on an old intel pc that I used to use BeOS (last avail release) on. It worked great on this machine, and I want to re-install it. In fact I think I still have (can dig up somewhere) my original installation disc.

So what should I use though?

1) My original last release of the actual BeOS? (with what major updates should I d/l)?
2) Haiku? Is this actual working yet? Will it work on an old pc that BeOS use to work on?
3) Zeta? Is this dead? Is it downloadable/free?
4) Other?

Thanks a lot!!

Forum thread started by smashIt on Mon, 2007-06-25 21:49

I just downloaded the haiku-image.
But when I boot it I get an out-of-range error from my tft.
I run it on an old k6-3 with rage pro videocard.
Which file do I have to edit to get a working gui?

MfG,
Chris
