BFS access in windows

Forum thread started by Darkness on Fri, 2007-06-08 00:39

As I mentioned on IRC, I have been working lately on reading the contents of a BFS partition in windows.

Right now this is only limited to a userland application, but adding more functionality and converting this to a filesystem driver is on the roadmap. However there is still a long way to go.

Current status:
* mount multiple partitions
* browse files
* copy files to windows

some screenshots:

You may notice SkyFS in those screenshots. That's because I started this to access skyfs partitions (skyfs is based on bfs) and as you can see, I can read both types.

I will keep you guys updated on my progress.

Its great that i can give this a try at last. I just got a Macbook Pro and have a CPU thats supported now. I cant wait to get home and see what it can do! I loved BeOS and you guys seem to have made a very good clone!

I dont intend this to be spam, so if not allowed I am sorry. I also run a new site with areas for lots of Alternative OS's. BeOS is one I welcome if anyone is interested in taking a look its at www.acill.com for now.

Haiku featured as Distro of the Day

Forum thread started by jwhaley on Wed, 2007-06-06 00:44

Hi all,

I've been a long time Haiku (and BeOS) fan; thanks to everyone for their great work. I just featured Haiku as the Distro of the Day for June 5. It's also today's personality for SchizOS, a system which gives you a brand new operating system every day.

old beos for download

Forum thread started by michaewlewis on Wed, 2007-05-30 15:04

I used BeOS several years ago before it died and have since lost my BeOS install CD. I have tried installing haiku and beos max, but have only had trouble with it and don't have the time I used to, to fiddle with it until it works. Does anyone know where I can download the old BeOS? I can't remember what version it was, I think it was R3 or R4...

Custom attributes are go

Forum thread started by Malthus on Tue, 2007-05-29 13:14

I just want to applaud a small milestone: my latest build of Haiku (May 18) is the first in which I've been able to create custom jpeg attributes.

This may bore the pants off some people, but it's important to me because I've been amassing a library of pictures on BeOS since getting my first digital camera about two years ago, and I depend on indexed IMAGE:caption IMAGE:copyright and IMAGE:keywords attributes, and permanent custom queries, to manage my library. Now I can begin importing pictures and testing my system on Haiku. Good stuff!

For the record, the Haiku Tracker correctly displays my custom data (but they do slow down window resizing), and queries on the custom attributes work as they should.

Reaper Digital Audio Software

Forum thread started by InactiveX on Tue, 2007-05-29 04:00

Hello there, I am a sometime BeOS user and music producer/recording engineer.

Recently, Reaper, a Digital Audio Workstation suite, has been making waves amongst pro-audio engineers. Many are talking of switching from one of the flagship industry-standard audio packages in the near future.

http://www.cockos.com/reaper/

At the moment, Reaper is Windows only, with OSX to follow soon.

It seems to me from my limited knowledge of Haiku, that Reaper could be a great application for the "new media OS".

Would it be worth someone from Haiku contacting the Reaper developers? I for one think it could be very promising, and I urge you to take a look.

Kind regards.

Haiku case badge

Forum thread started by eightbit on Wed, 2007-05-23 20:37

How about offering a haiku case badge for sale to raise money for haiku, such as the 3 leaf thumbnail I see in my firefox browser tab or a version of the logo/banner at the top of haiku-os.org. Charge 5 US dollars? I would buy a few!
BTW - I think a mockup of the logo/banner would look great as a bootscreen.
