Newer hardware (Athlon 64, etc)

Forum thread started by allenb on Thu, 2005-10-27 18:38

It's about time for me to upgrade some of my aging and increasingly problematic hardware, but before I did, I had a few questions.

Has anyone had any problems (or successes) trying to run BeOS/Haiku on a 64-bit processor (Athlon 64, Sempron, etc)? I doubt that I will be able to run it in 64-bit mode (in any OS), but has anybody tried to run a 64-bit processor in 32-bit mode in BeOS/Haiku? Just thought I'd ask before I bought new hardware that might lock me out of Haiku.

Anyone remember?

Back when I first tried BeOS (R4), there was something for sale at Be's store called Be Essentials (or some such) that consisted of a spreadsheet (Sum-it?) and a word processor.

Does anyone remember what word processor that was? Who wrote it? Is the source available anywhere?

Haiku & speed

Forum thread started by priit on Tue, 2005-10-25 05:53

I really don't know if it's just me, or is Haiku very very slow on my machine (700Mhz, 256MB RAM, plenty of disk space), whereas Build Factory has system req much smaller. I can't even use it natively, installing HD image onto hard drive partition. Moving the cursor takes about a minute.. Any suggestions what I might be doing wrong? I've tried with Bochs, QEMU (in BeOS 5 & in Linux) and HD install.

Blog RSS feeds?

Hi,

I don't know if this is the right forum for this request. Would there be any chance that for Sikosis and Axeld blogs you could add an RSS feed. I think blogger charge for the feature but you can do it for free using feedburner.com

HD Images

Forum thread started by Sikosis on Sat, 2005-10-22 21:53

Hi,

A Team Admin decision was reached to not host the HD Images under the Download section of our web site, until they are at a more stable level.

You can, of course, visit our Haiku Build Factory, to see the current build progress, issues and downloads of Jam Packages (drivers).
