General Haiku Discussion

Here you can talk about anything relating to Haiku.

topcoder

Forum thread started by cipri on Fri, 2014-03-21 01:30

I guess topcoder could be one idea for haiku.
http://www.topcoder.com/

At least it could be worth an experiment, because as I understood topcoder has many users who are working for not that much. (Also people from china etc...)

If you look at that page you see "contests" that are related to projects... and the winner gets 50 dollar or 100 dollar. Etc...

I think it would be worth an experiment, perhaps like this we get also new contributors...

network password not being saved

Forum thread started by kp3ft on Wed, 2014-03-19 21:22

Is there a default password in Haiku? I can't connect to my Haiku machine with either SSHD or FTP. I changed the password in Terminal to something simple, but it seems like it isn't saving it. Every time I try to connect, it returns that it's the wrong password. Is there a way I can see the password, maybe in a config file or something? I would try the default password, but I have no idea what it is.

haiku depot

Forum thread started by opeth on Wed, 2014-03-19 11:36

introduction, new haiku user

Hey guys, I'm Taylor, I'm new to the haiku/Beos system. I first heard about beos awhile back, and now i'm using haiku. I'm quite surprized as it runs blazing fast on my 3.4ghz Pentium 4 HT computer with 4gb of ram. I can see haiku being a replacement for windows.

Which Linux/BSD filesystem is most similar to BFS?

Forum thread started by HaikuForever on Fri, 2014-03-07 21:09

Which Linux/BSD filesystem is most similar to BFS? Especially with regard to extended file attributes.

Also, do you know of any OS, other than Haiku, where extended file attributes are indexed by the operating system itself? Linux has Beagle, which comes close, but that is an application.

In my (limited) knowledge, Haiku is still the best system for indexing/managing extended attributes. Or is there some something else that might compete with it?
