HEVC/H.265 support in Haiku

Forum thread started by vidrep on Thu, 2013-11-28 15:56

Is there any chance we can get HEVC/H.265 support implemented into Haiku anytime soon using the latest FFmpeg decoders? As of October 16, 2013 FFmpeg now supports it.

From the Phoronix website(October 16, 2013 ):

FFmpeg developers are now using OpenHEVC as their native H.265 decoder implementation. The latest Git code to FFmpeg now supports H.265 while HEVC demuxing support was also added to the TS, MOV, and Matroska demuxers.

I have tested several HEVC sample clips in Haiku 4.1a4, using Haiku Media Player without success - good audio, but no video (black screen).

AVCHD codec support

Forum thread started by vidrep on Tue, 2013-11-26 19:14

Are there any plans to support the AVCHD format in the Haiku Media Player, since FFmpeg already includes an AVCHD decoder in its libavcodec library? Haiku will not recognise the AVCHD file extensions M2TS, MTS and M2T, and must be renamed to MP4 before attempting to play the files in Media Player. Apparently, the current VLC media player will play AVCHD video files, although I have not tried it yet myself. The latest BeOS revision is 0.8.6c, so I have my doubts it will work in Haiku.

Selling my BeBox on eBay. Great find for that Haiku user that wants to see a blast from how this all started at Be. Finally decided I need to sell my last BeBox and move on.

eBay auction that started today

Hope someone that loves BeOS and Haiku gets it.

JABA CD Burning App

Forum thread started by vidrep on Mon, 2013-11-18 20:40

Back in 2009 the creator of the JABA CD burning application was interested in continuing developement for the Haiku community. We really need a good CD burning application for Haiku, and JABA was one which worked well in Zeta. Has any progress been made in the 4 years since the offer was posted on Haikuware?

Chromebook

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Thu, 2013-11-14 21:25

I know that it is possible to install Ubuntu onto a chromebook. does anyone know if the same or similar method would work with Haiku? If it would, it would sure make an inexpensive Haiku Laptop.

Where are the SDL libs now?

Forum thread started by MichaelPeppers on Sun, 2013-11-10 23:07

So... I came back to Haiku after a long while and while I'm pretty amazed by Package Management (neat, clean, convenient) I'm struggling to find some packages that were included inside the Installoptionalpackage script, namely the SDL libs. Where do I have to get them now? Haikuporter?

(Also, I've noticed that the boot time increased. A lot. About 5-6 seconds more. Yeah, it's still a fast boot but... I got so used to Haiku's former ultra-fast booting that the current situation is putting me off.)
