Haiku on alix3d3 ?

Forum thread started by fil on Wed, 2013-03-27 18:33

Hi all,

I want to use Haiku on this board :
http://www.pcengines.ch/alix3d3.htm

Especially I need video "Geode LX Video driver" or "AMD Geode LX (a.k.a. GX3) PCI ID: 0x1022:0x2081" according to this site :
http://www.x.org/wiki/GeodeDriver

Any chance to run ? :)
Right now I'm running standard i386 Debian without video...since 3-4 years without any problems.

10x,
Filip

More Fonts for Haiku

Forum thread started by waddlesplash on Wed, 2013-03-27 13:13

Haiku really needs more fonts in its official distribution. I proposed the 3 "Liberation" fonts as alternatives to "Times New Roman", "Arial", and "Courier New": #9581.

What are some other fonts (under the GPL/LGPL/OFL/SIL) that you think Haiku should have in its official distro? I for one think that it should get "Gentium Plus", as Haiku needs a good Unicode font and Gentium Plus has 5,500 glyphs!

Haiku on ARM architecture & emerging markets

Forum thread started by piero on Mon, 2013-03-25 20:34

I was wondering if there is any plan to progress on the haiku port to ARM architecture considering that Raspberry Pi is sold for $25.
I see it as a fantastic opportunity to bring a fast and modern OS on an inexpensive platform for emerging markets.
Perhaps it is possible to get funding too to bring computing in many areas of the world and could be disruptive in our computing world.....

Now we can play DVDs and media streaming on Haiku

Forum thread started by Giova84 on Mon, 2013-03-25 16:19

This is a news which worth publish separately :-)
I have ported SMPlayer, a mediaplayer which uses Mplayer as engine (i have also ported the last available revision of Mplayer with DVD, SMB and fontconfig support)
The peculiarity of this MediaPlayer, differently from the plain MediaPlayer of Haiku, is the ability of playing audio and video streaming, playing video DVDs and has support for downloading movies subtitles.
I have also ported "smtube": an embedded browser for Youtube :-)
Works very well :-)

EDIT 2013-03-28: BY USERS FEEDBACK SEEMS THAT MPLAYER (THE ENGINE WHICH SMPLAYER USE) VIDEO OUTPUT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH RADEON VIDEO CARDS, AND IN THIS CASE MPLAYER MIGHT CRASH.

Does anyone have this torrent?

Forum thread started by waddlesplash on Sat, 2013-03-23 20:17

After looking for WinBe and Win4Be's source code without results, I found this torrent (which has sources to a lot of apps that no one seems to have anymore). However, after running my torrent software for 26 hours straight, no one seems to have the torrent.

If anyone here has it as a torrent, could you fire up your BitTorrent software? I only want 293MB of it, which is everything but all the disc images and Haiku sources. Uploading it to somewhere is fine too.

Thank you in advance!

Qt Creator on Haiku

Forum thread started by waddlesplash on Mon, 2013-03-18 23:08

I'm in the middle of trying to get Qt Creator running on Haiku, and I ran into the inevitable "ptrace" problem.

Since it's been 3 years since this problem first appeared, has anything changed? Would it be possible to implement a ptrace "compatibility later"?

And while I'm at it, would the devs accept more POSIX compatibility functions into master? And what ones are missing, anyway?

Error Messages Should All Be Haikus

Forum thread started by nitt on Sat, 2013-03-16 23:49

I heard they were at one point.

Something like this error:

The application:

/foo/bar

has encountered an error which prevents it from continuing.
Haiki will terminate the application and clean up.

Should instead say:

The application
has encountered an error
and will terminate.

/foo/bar

Why aren't they in haikus?
I mean, this is Haiku.
