Interview with Matthew Madia

Forum thread started by Premislaus on Mon, 2012-04-30 08:07

The interview was done in April 14. The questions was sent to the e-mail. I got a reply after two weeks.

Premislaus: Hi! Let me start with the traditional question. Could you introduce yourself and say how old you are, where are you from, and what do you do on a daily basis? And as you've come to the Haiku project?

mmadia: Hi. I'm Matt Madia and use 'mmadia' as my online handle. I'm 2^5 years old and live in New Jersey, USA. For a day job, I work as a electrician with a trade union. My path to the Haiku® project started back in June of 2001. That's when I first installed BeOS® R5. For some years following that BeOS was my primary operating system. As you can imagine, that eventually led me to Haiku, which has since become my primary OS.

Premislaus: Could you tell how it happened, that you became the project leader? I was not then associated with the project, but I know that your predecessor was Michael Phipps. What can you tell us about him? What do you think of his departure? And if you had to compare with him, what are the differences in your project management?

mmadia: First, I am not "the project leader".

In open source projects, take Haiku for example, I don't think there is ever one single decisive leader. The viewpoints of numerous people, who contribute the greatest, tend to carry more weight. If one wanted to, those people could be labeled "project leaders".

I see that the IEEE article (referenced in the BeGeistert write-up) is now out and making the rounds.

Deutsche Sprache?

Forum thread started by Octopus on Wed, 2012-04-25 11:55

What makes Haiku so responsive? Ae there other as responsive OS?

Forum thread started by macsociety on Thu, 2012-04-19 04:38

I asked this same question over on Amigaworld forums. Figured I would ask here.

What has attracted me to Amiga OS is the responsiveness of the OS. I click something, stuff happens right away. I see that positive in Amiga OS and the old BeOS. Same goes for Haiku.

Have you found other OS that is equally or even better than Amiga OS?

Also, for those that know the whys, why is it that OS like Amiga and Haiku seem more responsive that other mainstream OS? What tech or special coding is being used that makes these OS faster or more responsive?

Non-profit hosting for non-profit org.

Forum thread started by HardWareHost on Tue, 2012-04-10 19:43

I run servers in several American cities, Toronto, and London.

I'm looking around for OSS projects to host, preferably 501c3 which Haiku is, no markup, truly non-profit hosting.

You'll still get the same support as a regular customer.

Just name how much HDD space you Usage you want and I'll send you a price which I assure you is far below sticker.

Just respond here or email me and I'll respond as quickly as I can.
Just to note, if you want small and cheap with cPanel, Toronto is probably best, the other locations are mostly deds.

Maybe including the link to my page is too... spammy, but at least you can then see I'm real. http://fpshosting.net/canadian-webhosting/ Ignore the prices, your price would be worlds lower and I can make you a custom plan.
