Programming with Haiku!

Forum thread started by ddavid123 on Mon, 2011-11-07 02:27

I know most of you are familiar with darkwyrm's work "Learning to Program with Haiku", and "Programming with Haiku"! I believe it is an important tutorial to foster Haiku rich application development! I have taken the liberty to take all of the single PDF files found at "http://darkwyrm.beemulated.net/lessons.htm" and condense them into two PDF files plus example source code! I have compressed it all into a 5.1 MB zip file!

In my opinion, it is better to have one PDF file for one tutorial instead of having as many PDF files as there are lessons. The Zip file containing the tutorials can be found below

BeOS PE Max Edition version 3 (not 4) available?

Forum thread started by kp3ft on Sun, 2011-11-06 00:32

Not sure which forum to post this in, so I apologize if this isn't appropriate. I'm looking for the older version of BeoS PE MAx Edition version 3, not version 4. Version 4 is available on the internet, but version 3 gives me dead links. I need to install BeOS on my older laptop, and version 3 did work in the past. Version 4 won't. I want to use Haiku on it, but I can't get Soundplay to work on Haiku, so I need to use BeOS for now.

Java development and Clockwerk

Forum thread started by Hubert on Sat, 2011-11-05 18:39

Last I see Java Development in the optional package. What is the status of this work and who is now working on this port?

Second question: What is the priority work on Clockwerk. Whether by design is to create a program to form the Adobe Premiere?

Haiku Italian Site

Forum thread started by Barrett on Fri, 2011-11-04 04:30

Hello, for italian users there's a new website : www.haiku-it.org, it's managed and created by many italian haiku users.

Our hope is to get more big in future : ) at the moment we are already working on the website/documentation, but it's at least a good source of updated news in italian language.

interesting read about Haiku and tablets

Forum thread started by ribbonz on Tue, 2011-11-01 20:30

this is an interesting read:

http://deninet.com/node/1250

However, he makes a few conclusions that don't seem right to me.

For example, about the lack of theming/UI customizing in BeOS, that was intentional as far as I remember. Be just wanted a unified look and didn't think that allowing users to twiddle with this was very important.

And I think that this philosophy more or less continues with Haiku. Making the UI more tweakable doesn't involve great technical hurdles AFAIK. Stating that you'd essentially have to re-write the OS in order to make the UI customizable sounds over the top.

Also, the guy is one of the "cloud is taking over" types. I don't agree. I think the cloud is important, but operating systems are and will continue to be important too.

Finally, he suggests that Haiku (and other alternative OS developers) just have fun and not worry about world domination. But hey, that's how it already is.

Despite all these gripes on my part, it's a good read.

Haiku stalls and quits during file copying

Forum thread started by larryrl on Mon, 2011-10-31 15:21

I try to install, and I create my partition and everything goers fine and starts copying files, then it gets to a file with first two letters "ar" and another "as" Those two letter are all that show up, and shortly after it quits with a message no such directory, or some other message which I forget now, but anyway I am running a HP pavilion slim line with an amd semperon processor.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated. If I can get it running, it will be the os I use most.

Larry
