How to use Haiku as an access point?

Forum thread started by Fallingwater on Sat, 2014-11-29 16:10

My ISP uses a custom router that limits my connections to said router to a maximum of three. I'd like to connect a wifi access point to the custom router, so I could connect however many devices to said AP and the custom router would only see one.

I could use a dedicated router or access point for this, but I don't happen to have one. I do, however, have an old EeePC 701 currently running the latest dev of Haiku. Ethernet and wifi are both working. How do I configure it so as to connect to the Internet via Ethernet, and accept connections from other computers on its wifi?

I know I could do this via Linux, but I'd prefer to use Haiku if at all possible because it seems to suit the little 701 so much better.

Support for nVidia cards in R1 (and maybe before)?

Forum thread started by spiraleyes on Sun, 2014-11-16 23:03

I noticed in one of the Prop questions, that support for at least higher resolutions on all video cards was a "must have" for R1. At least I think it was a must have. My question is, will it be ready in time? Not that I am trying to rush or be impatient, but I noticed nothing in the activities of the source code to show anything about it. Even though it's a mild annoyance to switch video cards in the BIOS, and inputs on the monitor when I boot into Haiku, it's still an annoyance. I would love for the process to be really simple to switch to another OS. I can't stay on the onboard Intel card if I want to play games, so I only use it for Haiku (which I am using at least 70% of the time).

I did want to repeat, I'm really not trying to rush, nag, or be impatient, I am just curious if work is being done, or plan on being done. I realize the official R1 is still a ways off.

Thanks.

Will it remain the everlasting pet of the family?

Haiku Nightly work with Z87 i7 4770 based M/B nvidia 750ti Video Card?

Forum thread started by macsociety on Fri, 2014-11-07 01:17

Anyone using nightly that will boot so I can test OS from CD?

Canadian Haiku Meeting

Forum thread started by Haiku_Programmer on Thu, 2014-11-06 15:39

First, I notice that the HSA seems to be all European in nature.

I would like to see if I could arrange a North American/Canadian club meeting or even a conference if enough people are interested, sometime in 2015.

The main location would be near the airport in Toronto Canada. The number of people will determine where, but there are a number of hotels in the area that have conference centers for rent on a daily basis.

However, I don't know if anyone else would be interested and what activities they would care to be doing.

If you think it may be possible for you, please leave a message here in the forum or leave a voice mail at 905-434-5976.

PS. Any suggestion on how else to do this?

Millions of websites hit by Drupal hack attack

Forum thread started by kvdman on Sat, 2014-11-01 02:37

Quoting the BBC:

"In its "highly critical" announcement, Drupal's security team said anyone who did not take action within seven hours of the bug being discovered on 15 October should "should proceed under the assumption" that their site was compromised."

Don't know if the maintainers were aware of this here. Hopefully Haiku's site isn't affected. I guess they say part of the problem is no auto update in Drupal.

File attributes

Forum thread started by kemps4 on Fri, 2014-10-31 20:24

I see it's possible to create custom file types. I may need this ability for an experiment here in the lab. One thing I was looking at is the Person type. In using the People application, I'm able to drop a picture of myself to my Person file. Is this picture stored as an attribute? If this is true, can someone give me an explanation on how to add a picture (< 32K - small) to a file's attribute? When creating a file type, is there a way to specify a picture attribute? How does this Person type work??

Thanks,
Scott
