Help with Compiling Bochs

Forum thread started by stellarpower on Wed, 2010-09-22 19:11

Hey, I'm trying to compile Bochs and was wondering if anyone had any experience.

When I run configure or the special beos script, it says "Can't detect build type, please select one manually". When I use the --build argument, I can't find the right option. I've tried many different spellings of Beos and Haiku, and each time it tells me that it isn't a valid option. I tested it with --build mac just to test that it works, which it does.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

alpha 3?

Forum thread started by 6foot3 on Sun, 2010-09-19 12:42

Any body have any ideas on a timetable for alpha 3 (or maybe beta1)? I was wondering about the code sprint that will probably accompany BeGeistert 023 next month. Does anyone know if the devs are contemplating another release soon? I know Axel has done a lot of work on wi-fi with a view to implementing WAP and notice that stippi seems to be working on media issues at a furious pace. If you add stack and tile to that, the next release should be pretty interesting.

Adjusting brightness in Haiku

Forum thread started by farvardin on Wed, 2010-09-15 05:15

Hello,

is it possible to adjust brightness and colors in Haiku (without touching the physical screen options)? I can't find a way to do it on the preferences?
I'd like to get a behavior similar to the redshift software: http://jonls.dk/redshift/ which automatically turn the screen dimmer and with red tones in the evening (to prevent sore eyes)

imap problem using BeZilla Mail

Forum thread started by farvardin on Tue, 2010-09-14 06:16

Hello,

when sending an email with BeZilla Mail, it's very often I get the error: "Mail server imap.yourserver.net is not an IMAP4 mail server.". It can be for gmail, or for another imap server, so it's very unlikely they are both not available at the moment. Then it proposes to try again because it failed, so I can try an half dozen times before the connection is accepted at last. Then my email is sent. Sometimes I see the email can be duplicated, so it's quite annoying.

This happened quite recently (about a month ago), before I could send email without problems. Any idea?

Haiku as the $100 laptop OS

Forum thread started by aldobr on Sun, 2010-09-12 20:04

A long time ago the Sub $100 laptop saga begun.

Just after some initial research by involved partners, Microsoft felt unsafe about the developments and forced windows on the $100 laptop proposal.

Microsoft fears that a new generation of younger people using linux would remove the only trumph card Windows really has : The user base.

Well, to make a long story short, Chinese companies managed to produce sub $100 dollars laptops.

Like this http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/324578084/7_inch_mini_laptop_netbook.html

VT8505 is an ARM9 clone.

While this system is resource constrained, i think Haiku would be the perfect fit.

In my country a sub $100 laptop is still usefull (Very usefull) to digitally include the most poor regions of the country.

A side effect would be to remove Windows (CE) from those machines.

Im posting this just as an incentive to the very nice people who are working on the ARM9 port of Haiku.

Thank you for all your good work.
