Hackaton

Forum thread started by fortheloveofhaiku on Sat, 2010-09-18 11:17

Hello everyone

I was wondering if anyone else thinks about Haiku inc hosting a hackaton. i know it would drive development by a substantial amount!

Here is what i purpose. 3 days (friday evening to sunday possibly in the coming month or so, whenever suits) of non stop open development on the various areas of haiku getting the community involved as much possible. Maybe even some sort of development competition between developers.

I dont know what everyone thinks but i would be more than happy to provide my assistance.

Cheers :)

'Expanding a variable'

Forum thread started by stellarpower on Sat, 2010-09-11 12:07

Could someone please explain to me how to use the value of a variable instead of the variable itself. For example, if I wanted to prompt the user for the name of a variable using scanf("%s", &varname) and then int [value of varname]. SO if the user entered blue, there would be a new variable called blue.

Intel C++ compiler

It would be interesting to build Haiku with the Intel optimizing C++ compiler:

Haiku man equivalent?

Forum thread started by AndrewZ on Tue, 2010-08-03 19:10

What is the Haiku equivalent of man? Like for instance I want to add a system call for umount. How do I determine which include file to use and which lib to link against?

Problems building Haiku

Forum thread started by neonsonicboy on Tue, 2010-07-27 17:00

I'm trying to build Haiku [don't know what revision but it's fairly recent] in a VMware VM of the standard Alpha 2 release, running on top of Mac OS X 10.6.2. I'm not sure what the problem is but I am fairly sure it's the compiler, however I can't provide output. I get many 'failed' messages and it won't build the image due to lack of various files. I don't know what's wrong, I've configured it and even run the buildtools compiler.

Thanks,

Gcc 4.3.3

Forum thread started by fortheloveofhaiku on Thu, 2010-07-08 18:11

Hi all,

I know Gcc 4.3.3 is the planned compiler for future releases but would it be possible for those who wish to jump the gun to compile the the system using Gcc 4.3.3 currently, im currently using Haiku to compile the Haiku source so i would have to use the current Gcc 4 on haiku to compile Gcc 4.3.3 .
Would there be any performance / compatibility advantages with compiling it with the newer version of GCC
