ipw2100 wep problem

Forum thread started by vigoo on Sun, 2010-05-23 21:25

Hi All,

I'm trying run Haiku on an Acer TravelMate 803LCi computer. This includes an ipw2100 wireless adapter, which is detected by the system and the appropriate /dev/net/ipw2100/0 device is visible.

The syslog contains the following lines:

KERN: IPW2100: installing interrupt handler on interrupt line 10
KERN: IPW2100: loading firmware /system/data/firmware/ipw2100/ipw2100-1.3.fw
KERN: IPW2100: microcode did not validate itself
KERN: IPW2100: loading microcode failed
KERN: IPW2100: failed to load imcrocode and firmware

When I'm trying to set the WEP passcode with setwep I get the following error (several times):

set80211: error in handling SIOCS80211

I'm new to Haiku and at this point I have no idea how to proceed. I would be happy to provide more information or help debugging the problem if you can guide me on what to check.

Haiku USB Stick Install for Dummies?

Forum thread started by twitherspoon on Sun, 2010-05-23 11:29

Hi, Group,

I'm probably one of the least tech-savvy folks in this discussion forum. I'm not a programmer or developer. I do, however, run a nonprofit called Ears To Our World (http://etow.org). I use a netbook when I travel (Acer Aspire One) and I just discovered Haiku so thought I would give it a shot (I've always had a place in my heart for BeOS).

I'm having difficulty creating a USB stick install of Haiku. I've followed the instructions on the Haiku website, but I simply don't understand the command line stuff to use with dd for windows (I run Win 7 on my main PC).

I also tried Haiku on a stick, but even a fresh download of the software instantly produces an error up front and has not worked.

My USB stick is formatted Fat32 and is 1GB.

Can someone either give me some *super* simple install instructions for a USB stick (something you would write for your grandmother)or point me to an easier work-around?

Cheers,
Thomas

can't find libm

Forum thread started by farvardin on Thu, 2010-05-20 22:11

Hello,

I'm trying to compile this on Haiku: http://code.google.com/p/jacl/
The "normal" version is using ncursesw so I don't think I can compile it easily, but there is a simpler version (called cjacl), which can compile, but when linking it says:

/boot/common/lib/gcc/i586-pc-haiku/4.3.4/../../../../i586-pc-haiku/bin/ld: cannot find -lm
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

I'm using gcc4 because the gcc2 can't compile.

Before running make, I did alias gcc='/boot/develop/abi/x86/gcc4/tools/gcc-4.3.3-haiku-100425/bin/gcc'

it seems lm is for libm, which should be in the glibc

R1A2 kernel entry

Forum thread started by Bobo on Thu, 2010-05-20 16:22

Hi

I try run new alpha 2 live cd on my old HP omnibook xt1500, but after few second I get kernel error message "kernel entry at 8004e798" and all hangs. Maybe no supported hardware ? VIA P4M266 and integrated GPU Savage4DDR ? Any ideas ?

HTML5 and WebPositive

Forum thread started by Dilbert on Wed, 2010-05-19 20:53

Hi!
I just read that Google has released a new HTML5 video format totally free to use.
Some browsers already support it.

These can view YouTube without the Flash plugin, in HTML5 mode.

When will this benefit us Haiku users?

Disabling ACPI by default

Forum thread started by farvardin on Wed, 2010-05-19 10:52

Hello,

I couldn't start Haiku (hang on bootup), so I disabled acpi and could load Haiku.

I tried to make this permanent, by commenting the line related to ACPI on
/boot/home/config/settings/kernel/drivers/kernel

It's booting now, but the desktop remains blank, until I press for 1/2 second my powerbutton, then the desktop continue to load.

Is there an other place where I should disable ACPI?

Is there any hardware compatibility list anywhere?

Forum thread started by Haikurocks on Wed, 2010-05-19 01:46

Is there any hardware compatibility list anywhere?
By the way, can someone tell me if i can install Haiku on SATA drives? Chipsets supported?
Wouldnt be a good idea to make a webpage or similar to know what programs people can install before installing Haiku and how does they go?

Thanks in advance.
