Haiku CD Cannot Find Any Boot Partition (DMA Has Been Disabled)

Forum thread started by catnip on Sun, 2010-01-03 19:30

I have an Acer Aspire One 150 (with a regular 160 GB HD) and dearly want to put Haiku on it. Having no optical drive on the Aspire, I have tried to use my Asus external DVD to boot the Haiku CD. It is powered using two USB ports. I have had success using this device to install other OS's on the Aspire. And I have disabled DMA. Yet, booting stops at the drive icon and then I get the message that Haiku cannot find a boot partition. Is there anything anyone knows of that could could be causing this, assuming that DMA has been disabled. Thank you!

How to configure GRUB2 to load Haiku_

Forum thread started by svgt on Sun, 2010-01-03 01:27

Hi,

I am using GRUB2 in my collection of linuxes. There are some hints how to configure the older GRUB with menu.lst. But this procedure does not work. Now I must use the installation cd or a GRUB floppy to get Haiku started.

I hope for some advice to configure GRUB2.

WiFi Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG

Forum thread started by Bruno Brocoli on Wed, 2009-12-30 10:24

I downloaded the Haiku nightly just a few days ago...

I thought WIFI might work now but I does not...

Maybe it is still not included in the CD or it is still not working with Laptops/Notebooks?

I use a Samsung X11 Laptop both the WIFI and the ethernet Network dont work. Here my specs:

1) What is your vendor & device ids for the network card? - use listdev in Haiku:

I have a:
Network Controller [2|80|0]
Vendor 8086: Intel Corporation
device 4222: PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (Golan) Network Connection

and a:
Network controller (Ethernet controller) [2|0|0]
Vendor 14e4: Broadcom Corporation
device 170c: BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX

2) cd into /dev/net & list folders & subfolders:
There is not folder/subfolder in /dev/net

3) In Network preferences can you select the network card?
No network card shown.

4) what information does ifconfig give for the card?:
I typed ifconfig in the terminal and got:
MTU: 16384 others are: inet addr: 127.0.0.1 Mask: 255.0.0.0 and Metric: 0 up loopback link...
by receive: the value is all: 0

5) Do you use a router? If so, assign the network card a static ip and ping the router:
How to do this? Cannot choose the card in the network preferences.

Which is more likely to work?
The Wireless or the Ethernet card?

Should I write a bug report? I think this is known to the devs.

Thanks all...

Trouble installing to Inspiron 8000

Forum thread started by expensivelesbian on Mon, 2009-12-28 13:07

hello

I've tried installing Haiku Alpha 1 to a DELL Inspiron 8000, with debug out to screen ticked I get this, http://bayimg.com/dAJMkAaCD

Any ideas what would be causing this, I'm not an expert in deciphering KDL lingo. I'm trying to find out a definitive list of what hardware is inside this device, and will post if this is of help to the project devs.

I tried disabling most everything but user addons, but the error remains.

Grub error 17 after install?

Forum thread started by Greg_E on Sun, 2009-12-27 06:04

I'm getting a Grub Error 17 after I install Haiku to my drive. I'm using the entire disk so I think I don't even need grub so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Installing to a Fujitsu u810 laptop.

Now if I boot from the CD and hit the space bar for the Haiku boot loader and then choose my hard drive installation it loads right up, so the basic install is fine.

Is there and easy way to fix this so I can move on to trying to get all my devices tested and working?

It has an Atheros mini PCI e card for wireless I'd like to get working. I haven't tested the wired ethernet port yet.
