Installing Haiku on Parallels 4

Forum thread started by indierocknroll06 on Mon, 2009-09-21 03:26

So first I would like to admit that I am a newbie to BeOS. My goal is to install it on Parallels 4.0 to run it on my macbook. I downloaded Haiku from here and made the .pvm but on first boot it freezes on the loading screen. (The part that says Haiku and shows 7 icons below, it freezes when the 4th icon goes from black and white to color.)

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is what I want to do even possible? Is there another program I can use to do what I want? Thanks for any help!

Haiku networking problem.

Forum thread started by jaydc on Mon, 2009-09-21 01:27

Hi,

First I want to thank the Haiku dev team for the incredible work they've done. It's wonderfull to see a BeOS like OS running on modern hardware.

Well, I have installed Haiku alpha 1 on my Compaq mini 700 ef, and it's working quite well, but I have a strange problem with the network.
On fresh boot, network is Ok, but after using the network for less than a minute, I loose all the network.
Is there any solution for this ?

New User - installing library files

Forum thread started by touchwood on Mon, 2009-09-21 01:11

I have installed BePodder - when I run it I get

"Could not open "BePodder" (Missing libraries: libcurtl.so. libxml.so)

I did a search and found that these files exist on the system but are zipped -

can you tell me the command line (or other) option to unzip and install these files in the system

where the software will find them. I come from a *nix background.

Also if a user can point me to a doc on the structure of the file system it would be appreciated.

Thanks again

Nvidia Resolution support?

Forum thread started by Superhyper on Sun, 2009-09-20 23:31

Hi Folks,

I feel like a fool for asking, but I couldn't find an answer if any of the available resources. I'm running Haiku Alpha 1 natively on my desktop with an Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT, and I can't seem to change the screen resolution to 1280x1050 (which is the native resolution of my monitor). Does Haiku support this resolution on this graphics chipset?

Edit: I'm beginning to think it's not loading the nvidia driver at all. Scrolling is very glitchy, and in general video performance is quite limited. Regrettably i'm not skilled enough to tell if it's loading the driver, can anyone give me some pointers?

Can't boot into Haiku alpha 1

Forum thread started by TheOneElectronic on Sun, 2009-09-20 19:09

I was totally excited with this os and I had a spare laptop ready to be wiped off.
So I created a partition using GParted, gave it the whole hard disk and didn't specified any file system
Then I installed Haiku following the instructions carefully.
The problem is that at the first boot the bios doesn't even see/find the boot loader. It just shows a blank black screen with the message "no bootable device found - insert a boot cd and press any key" or something like that...
I tried to run Haiku from the live cd and it works and it's so gorgeous that it piss me off it doesn't boot from the hard disk.
BTW my specs are the following:

Packard Bell EasyNote V7900
CPU: Intel Centrino Duo T2300
Ram: 1024
Ati mobility radeon X1600

Is there any workaround for my issue? Is it a common one?

Unable to format partition with Alpha release

Forum thread started by DavidMcCann on Sun, 2009-09-20 16:36

I created a partition with GParted and ran the installer. In the initial screen, all the icons at the bottom lit up.

The first time I tried to format the partition, which had been pre-formatted as ext, Haiku gave the error "Drive setup could not be launched."

I then deleted and recreated the partition, taking care to leave it unformatted, to see if that helped. On that occasion, there was no error message: clicking on the desired partition had no effect.

Haiku unable to see my NIC

Forum thread started by rbar on Sun, 2009-09-20 14:44

hi

i just installed haiku on a HP Omnibook XE3. I am now stuck with 2 issues.

1) I checked the drivers section & it would appear that i have every common NIC driver under the Sun. Yet, the network Adapter prefs do not show anything under "Adapter". i can't imagine HP using a crazy odd-ball NIC.

2) How, within Haiku, can I confirm what NIC is physically on the mobo? Is there a shell command that would do this (please keep in mind that I am a noob when it comes to shell/Terminal commands)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
