Haiku and GeForce 2/GeForce 3 VGA output problem...

Forum thread started by Luposian on Tue, 2009-07-07 09:57

Haiku can't access my eMachines 19" widescreen LCD monitor's native resolution (1440x900) when I use my AGP GeForce2 or GeForce 3. The resolution simply isn't there/shown to select. It's available when I use a PCIe Geforce 6200 card and the DVI port on that same monitor, on a different computer.

Why is this and can it be fixed easily enough? I have no way of contacting Rudolf Cornelsen directly, that I've found, so I can't ask him this question specifically He's changing web site hosts or something.

USB audio in Haiku

Forum thread started by Luposian on Fri, 2009-07-03 08:24

The last time I looked at the drivers and install files and such, there was an entry for USB Audio. As both my nVidia chipset motherboards have HDA audio (which is shown, but nothing is ever heard, no matter what I do), I'm hoping plugging in a pair of USB speakers might be a quick work-around.

Has anyone tested this driver and/or know how to get it working?

Has Haiku abandoned BeOS compatibility?

Forum thread started by Luposian on Fri, 2009-07-03 08:20

The reason I ask is because, in the GCC4 version of Haiku, I can't use Firefox (it won't start) and Circus Linux won't run either. As so much has changed (such as: no more /beos folder (now called /system) and a lot of stuff is in /common now, etc.), it makes me wonder just how much BeOS software will still even work! I assume the GCC2 version of Haiku has the name folder changes and such.

It appears, from what I've seen, the GCC4 version of Haiku is gaining more and more prominence. Is this to be the new path Haiku is taking? If, so, great (I'm all for anti-legacy and forward-thinking and all whatnot)... but I think we need to have people rewriting programs so they'll work in Haiku again...

Bootloader

Forum thread started by Zero32 on Thu, 2009-07-02 12:57

Hi,

I have a problem. It's not about haiku but it's about the beos bootloader (i have no idea where else i can ask...) i own beos5 and would only install "bootman" on my pc without insalling beos, but the setup breaks after a few seconds.

i think it is because my main pc is too new (c2q q6600 @ 2,2 GHz, nvidia geforce gtx260, etc...)

is there another way to install "bootman" on my machine? i need it because i have more than one OS on my pc and bootman is the only bootloader i know hwo can read all at once.

thank you for the help

Trouble copy files in builds after June 2nd

Forum thread started by someguy on Tue, 2009-06-23 06:21

Hi,

I have a shell script that builds, copies, and creates the archive for a program I'm developing for Haiku. In builds after June 2nd, files that the script copies lose their mime types (I think) and are basically unusable. For example, an .html file that can be opened in BeZilla just by double clicking, is opened in StyledEdit after the script copies it to a new folder. Application files that are copied, no longer run properly, they seem to be corrupted.

I haven't changed anything in the script for at least 2 months, so this wasn't due to any changes I've made. I've tried this on 2 machines and 1 VM and I get the same behavior and only on builds after about June 2nd.

Is this a known issue? Anything I can do to help isolate the problem for someone to fix?

Thanks!
SomeGuy

BDirectWindow help

Forum thread started by vader on Wed, 2009-06-10 03:24

Hi all,

I'm looking at code I wrote a few years back for a game using BDirectWindow. I create the direct window and all my drawing is to the screen buffer (ie no other objects like BView etc). I have two problems which worked in the ancient days :)

problem 1) When I enable the cursor, there is a white box around it as if it is being drawn underneath the direct window, between refreshes.

problem 2) I don't seem to get any mouse down/up events. Keyboard events are coming through fine.

The window has focus (yellow border), although I am using mouse focus following. Everything compiles fine (gcc4), and runs, just no mouse. Obviously it worked in R5/Zeta :)

Is this a know problem, or do I have to do something else now (ie. create a BView just to receive mouse events)?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

PS. I can attach code snippets if that would help, but its pretty standard stuff.
