help needed for compiling error

Forum thread started by richienyhus on Wed, 2008-07-23 14:59

Hey I am just wondering if someone can tell if this compiling error has something to do with needing GCC4.0:

Getting Haiku/BeOS on my new laptop(ASUS F3 Series)

Forum thread started by Scribbles on Sun, 2008-07-06 20:15

I figured I should ask now, what would be my best strategy for running Haiku/BeOS. I used to run R5.03pe from the image file on my old desktop hardware, but I'll need to go a little more in depth for this computer I guess.

This is the computer I just bought:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220305

Specs:

ASUS F3 Series
Model: F3KA-X4
Installed OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
CPU: AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 2.0GHz
Screen: 15.4" WXGA
Memory: 3GB DDR2(667) Max 4gb
Hard Disk: 250GB
Optical Drive: DVD Super Multi
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 (I believe the card can be disabled and onboard video can be enabled, if need be)
Video Memory: 512MB dedicated memory on card
Communication: Modem, Gigabit LAN and WLAN
Card slot: 1 x Express Card
Dimensions/Weight: 14.2" x 10.5" x 1.1-1.6"/ 6 lbs.
WLAN 802.11n Wireless LAN
Ports: Card Slot, 1 x Express Card, USB 4, IEEE 1394 1, Video Port 1 x VGA, 1 x Audio Integrated Sound card / Speaker Internal Speakers
Input Device: Touchpad
Supplemental Drive: Card Reader 8-in-1
Webcam 1.3 MP

Since I only ever played around a bit with BeOS on a couple of computers I wasn't sure what the best way to go at this was, some kind of emulation/interperter/Virtual Machine, running from an image on the hardware, installing on one of the partitions ect...?

And is BeOS 5 PE Max V4 beta 1 my best option at the moment?

Any general comments?

BeDecorator

Forum thread started by Diver on Thu, 2008-06-26 23:11

Hey gang!

I have a question, is there a way to use BeDecorator instead of default one?
If so, could you give a hint in what to change (jamfile?) to make this possible?
If it possible I'd like to add this in my local UserBuildConfig to build my images with BeDecorator.
Thanks,
Diver.

HAPPY EASTER

Forum thread started by rvndrk32 on Wed, 2008-06-18 12:01

Hope you like eggs left to rot by previous developers.......

The 'Easter EGG' left on R5 where you press (Left of keyboard) Ctrl+Alt+shift to bring up the Theme menu to switch between windoze/mac/beos themes causes the uhhhhh (what is it? GUI?) to crash and hang tying up valuable processor time.Only recourse is to reboot and NOT hit those keys again.[windows fail to redraw,etc,etc.....]

There is no other effect on Haiku or its derivatives, but this bug seems to be left on all Haiku AND Haiku derivatives. THough I will admit 'RYU is a good demo of what HAiku is capable of.

How to install Haiku to USB Flash Drive from Windows

Forum thread started by miqlas on Wed, 2008-06-11 23:00

IMPORTANT!!!!
YOU USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. THE AUTHOR WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR DATA LOSS,
DAMAGES, LOSS OF PROFITS OR ANY OTHER KIND OF LOSS WHILE USING OR
MISUSING THIS SOFTWARE.

Note: When entering commands shown quotes, do not enter the actual quote characters!

0) Connect Your Flash Drive.

1) First download the latest Haiku raw image from HERE and the latest Flashnul program from HERE.

2) Extract both files to a new directory (e.g. c:\haiku). Rename the raw image to haiku.img

3) Open a Command Line (Start -> Run, type "cmd", and press enter.) You will see a black window appear with a blinking cursor. You can use basic DOS commands to navigate the directory of the image and the Flashnul. For example "cd \haiku".

4) Type "flashnul -p" to list the available devices.

Example:

Flashnul>flashnul -p

Available physical drives:
0 size = 81961123328 (76 Gb)
1 size = 1000341504 (954 Mb)

As you can see, I have 2 physical disks, the first is 76Gb, and the second is 954 Mb. The second is my Flash drive, shown at index 1. The list will vary depending on your own storage setup. It is very important that you use the number that your listing shows!!! Use the media size as an extra clue to identify the correct media.

5) Write image to flash drive
In step 4 we listed the available devices. We need the index of the Flash drive to write the image to it.

To write the image to Flash drive use the following command (Check the number 3 times before You press enter!!!!!):

"flashnul number_of_Your_flashdrive -L haiku.img"

Example:

Flashnul>flashnul 1 -L haiku.img

Civilization crashes at start up.

Forum thread started by Asmo on Sun, 2008-06-08 23:29

Hi there,

I bought Civilization : Call to Power some time ago and I noticed that it's only for BeOS.

I'm running Haiku on a VMWare, the game installed properly but when I run it, it crashes.

Here is what I get if I click on the Debug button:
