Can Haiku Read Mac Hard Drives?

Forum thread started by KenO on Thu, 2007-10-18 16:38

I have tried BeOS 5PE Windows install so know it will read Windows FAT32 hard drives.

If I connect a Mac hard drive will BeOS/Haiku read it?

Thanks

Ati Mobility Radeon M6 driver for Beos R5 pro with updates to 5.03

Forum thread started by Prophet on Thu, 2007-10-18 02:47

Hi,

I have a Toshiba satellite 1905-S277, installed Beos pro 5.03 on it. Tried the radeon driver version 5.1.3.1 on it but it doesn't seem to work (nothing happens).
My love/hate story is a long relation punctuated with many install/deinstall...It used to work before with one radeon driver provided on bebits ... 2 years ago, any hints?
Besides that, this model used to be quite fit for Beos as everything used to work except the sound card which is a CS4299-A.

Problem building haiku under Zeta 1.2

Forum thread started by thaflo on Mon, 2007-10-15 22:15

Hi, does anyone have some ideas regarding my problem building haiku under zeta 1.2?
System: Zeta 1.2
GCC: the required one, 2.95.3
I used ./configure without specified target.
I want to replace my Zeta installation with the Haiku one, so I typed:
HAIKU_INSTALL_DIR=/Haiku jam -q install-haiku

$ gcc -o "generated/objects/dano/x86/release/tools/gensyscalls/gensyscallinfos" "generated/objects/dano/x86/release/tools/gensyscalls/gensyscallinfos.o" -lstdc++.r4
generated/objects/dano/x86/release/tools/gensyscalls/gensyscallinfos.o: In function `ostream & operator<<, __default_alloc_template >(ostream &, basic_string, __default_alloc_template > const &)':

Hardware

Forum thread started by VeGeek on Sun, 2007-10-07 15:17

Hello! I have a computer with nForce4 chipset (ALC655 sound + GeForce 6100 integrated videocard) and LCD monitor. In haiku sound works well (in Zeta 1.5 - no, but it works very poor with OSS, something withresampling), but I need driver from haiku in BeOS/Zeta. I can`t download all the svn, I need prebuild module. Where can I get it?
Video card doesn`t work in Zeta/Haiku. I can only get "Unsupported mode" or black 800x600@56 screen on my LCD monitor. Maybe, problems are in DCC. I have probed to change options in nv.config. How can I say driver to use mode that I want? I can`t work in VESA mode.

Forum thread started by sandbird on Tue, 2007-09-11 18:11

As for the network everything working fine and I downloaded the Opera installation file which is "bin" file.

How to open it on Haiku?

Also what is "pkg" and how to open it on Haiku?

Is a driver from BeOS can work also on Haiku?

Assigning icons

Forum thread started by humdinger on Wed, 2007-09-05 12:10

Hello!

I need help assigning a newly created icon to an app. Saving the icon from Icon-O-Matic and dropping it on the icon well of the FileType window of the app doesn't do the trick.
I also tried to export as HVIF and drag&drop that. No go. If Icon-O-Matic was writing the icon attributes correctly (Ticket pending), I could just drag&drop between icon wells...

Also, how is the "Add icon..." of the icon well context menu supposed to work? It opens Icon-O-Matic. There I create or load my icon. And then? Is the icon supposed to appear automatically in the icon well upon closing I-O-M?

What are the other Export options of I-O-M for?

I have so many questions... :)
Is there some I-O-M documentation anywhere?

Thanks a bunch!

Tired of Running Haiku Under VMs

Forum thread started by GeneralMaximus on Tue, 2007-09-04 14:01

I'm a Linux user and quite interested in taking a *real* look at Haiku. Unfortunately I can only run from a VM. The forums tell me that SATA is not supported in Haiku/BeOS Max yet, so installing to a HDD is probably out of the equation already (is it so?).

Is there a way to put Haiku onto a CD/DVD or even a USB drive? My computer supports booting from USB and, as far as I know, Haiku can now support USB drives. Any ideas?

Another question : what is dd? I've been reading that "installing through dd might also be possible", but with a name so general, even Google wasn't able to pinpoint it. [EDIT : okay, "man dd" did the trick. How could I be so stupid?]

I'm ready to build from source, too, although I might need some guidance.
