Firefox

Forum thread started by goldencut on Wed, 2007-08-29 07:21

Is it possible to get Firefox (from bebits.com) running on Haiku? I tried the 'BeOS R5.0.1 and later' version and it didn't run... :(

Asus Pundit P1-AH2 with Haiku

Forum thread started by deb2006 on Fri, 2007-08-24 18:39

I am trying to boot Haiku off that machine. In the 1st place I have tried an image of haiku that was created, I believe, in October 2006. That image booted off CD, and the desktop came up. However, I was neither able to use my USB mouse nor my USB keyboard. Would it make any difference if I created a boot CD from the newest image? Meaning: Has USB support improved over the last 10 months? If so, how can I create a CD image on a Linux box? I can mount the image with the Linux befs driver, but something isn't working for some reason. Has someine ever created a Haiku CD from a Linux box? And if yes, what's the trick?

resize image

Hello,

Is there a way to resize the downloaded Haiku VM image? My 100Mb is full even before i get to fully extract Firefox. :(

Networking with rtl8139 network card.

Forum thread started by bbjimmy on Sat, 2007-08-18 18:17

The driver in the haiku repository has a known bug... the transfer just stops while performing an ftp transfer ( ftp, wget) or loading a web page ( NetPositive, Opera.) To get some use out of networking use these two commands in rapid sequence from a Terminal:

ifconfig /dev/net/rtl8139/0 down
ifconfig /dev/net/rtl8139/0 up

This will make the transfer continue again.

If you have downloaded BeOS MAX, copy /boot/beos/system/add-ons/kernel/drivers/bin/rtl8139 to the same location on your Haiku install. This driver seems to be working correctly without the hang problem.

VMW Tools

Forum thread started by humdinger on Thu, 2007-08-09 15:48

Greetings!

I read about it somewhere, I think on one of the mailing lists, but I'm not sure...

Anyway, I'd like to mention some useful tools when running Haiku in vmware: Momoziro's VMW Tools, see http://www.bebits.com/app/4296 .

By running vmw_server you can share the clipboard with your hosting OS. Very useful to get eg. a download URL into Haiku to use with wget.

There's also vmw_mouse that makes mouse usage seamless between the VM-window and your hosting OS, but that feels funny, at least here on my notebook.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to include these tools in the Haiku VMimage and maybe even put the clipboard thingy in the Bootscript?
I'd be happy to make contact with Momoziro to ask his permission.

svn checkout problem with fresh R5 install

Forum thread started by El-Al on Fri, 2007-07-13 16:06

Hi, recently re-installed R5 onto a new partition. With a view to rebuilding the Haiku partition I lost in the process, I have downloaded/installed all the tools required to checkout the Haiku sources from the repository.

Strange thing happened though. About 2 - 3 minutes into the checkout I visited KDL. Rebooted and tried again. Got the error 'No Such File Or Directory".

Any ideas what might be preventing access to the repo? I'm stuck!

Thanks
