Tutorial on how to make BeOs max working in vmware.

Forum thread started by lxstoian on Thu, 2007-07-12 14:23

Because of a recent discussion in the mailing list I decided to make this tutorial. Only thing I didn't get to work is the networking. I even have sound but it quite bad.

So first thing go get the files you need from here: http://www.beosmaxfiles.org/
And you have to have vmware server or workstation.

Crete a new custom machine.
Here are the steps:
Choose for guest os: other
I used 256 ram
Bridged networking
Create new virtual disk and make sure it's IDE. Give it just 100 mb ( must be ide 0:0)
Now after this go edit your new vmware machine.
Add a new hd this time at least 1 gb.
And add another cd.

For the next step you need another vmware machine with linux working on it.
Edit this machine by adding the newly made 1 gb disk.

Need help for installing BeOs max beta in VMWARE

Forum thread started by lxstoian on Thu, 2007-06-21 07:26

I'm trying to install BeOS max in VMWARE. I created a new machine with and IDE disk and managed to boot BeOS and start the installation. I got stuck at partitioning. It wont format the disk. How can I format the disk?

No partitions

Forum thread started by palas on Thu, 2007-06-14 13:40

When run Beos MAX from the live CD and I clic on mount, it shows both my hard disks but without any partitions. Then if I clic in any of them it shows an "OS error". So I can't install BeOS neither Haiku.
I suppouse this is because BeOS founds strange my partition table, but I need more than 4 partitions. (got 6)
Any idea to solve it without formatting? <- I've already repartitioned once and I can't be doing it once a month.
Is this a problem of BeOS or will I find it if I get to install Haiku?
Thanks in advance.

Haiku on a virtual machine (from the RAW image)

Forum thread started by Minoru on Fri, 2007-05-25 12:51

Trying to install Haiku on my virtual machine from the RAW HDD image:
sudo dd if=haiku.image of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=104857600 #100 * 1024^2
from Linux, but
PANIC: Unexpected exception "General Protection Exception" occured in kernel mode!

occurs. What's wrong? (using InnoTek VirtualBox as vm) May be, vm running problems or memory allocation bugs? :(
What's to do? :(

Grub gives: Couldn't load OS

Forum thread started by maddog39 on Sat, 2007-05-12 22:35

Hello all,

I've been trying to get Haiku to run on real hardware for a while. So today I went and DLed the latest revision from the repositories, built it, etc. So then I format my second 80GB hard drive with a unformatted partition taking up the whole disk, and use dd to write the haiku.image file to the disk partition. After that I went and edited my /boot/grub/menu.lst file under Ubuntu 6.06.1 and added a chainload entry to the bottom:

title Haiku
rootnoverify (hd1,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1

Terminal Here add-on works!

Forum thread started by humdinger on Mon, 2007-04-30 15:46

Hi there!

I've been looking for a Tracker add-on to open a Terminal window of the current folder. I tried Summon and TermHire without success.

On BeShare I got hold of "Terminal Here", whose BeBits download is sadly broken (-> http://www.bebits.com/app/1251 ). Even though it's a designated R4.5 app, it's the only one that works under Haiku.

Just to let everyone know who was looking for that kind of add-on.
Maybe this kind of thing should come built-in. Although, I admit once the "real" enduser come along it may be too geeky...
