Something Wacky in Wireless World

Forum thread started by Forumuser on Thu, 2013-11-21 00:10

Sigh. I just updated a year-old, working Haiku installation to hrev46368, and for a while I thought the whole wireless stuff was broken. Not so, it seems -- if I wait long enough.

Let me clarify: if I try to connect to a WPA/WPA2 network using the atheroswifi, the Connect Wireless Network window will fail if I try to connect immediately, nor will it allow me to save the password. However -- and I only learned this because I was writing this post -- given some time, like a few minutes, it will connect and allow a password save. On the other hand, it connects to the wireless network with what is listed sometimes as a WEP connection, other times as what it is, a WPA connection. Huh? Anyone have any idea what's going on?

I'd like to automate the wireless connection and login at start-up, but I'm a bit concerned with the apparent "lag." Any ideas?

Installing Haiku on Mac OS X: config.guess fails.

Forum thread started by The French Rat on Tue, 2013-11-12 07:21

Hello.
Following the instructions on https://www.haiku-os.org/documents/dev/how_build_haiku_mac_os_x, I did ./configure.
It was going fine, until I got this:

Config.guess failed to determine the host type. You need to specify one.
Usage: configure [OPTIONS] [HOST]

I think it's a problem with the build tools. Or am I doing something wrong?

Help -- Disk full -- Data trashed

Forum thread started by KantosKan on Sat, 2013-11-09 16:44

Hello, While running a program that writes large files, I managed to fill the start-up disk, and the system quit working. It won't reboot. I booted from the installation CD, and everything in the home directory is gone. I can see the data using DiskProbe, but the files are gone. Terminal doesn't see them either. It is many gigabytes of data. Is there any way to recover some of the files ?

compiling python 2.7.5

Forum thread started by spinach on Sat, 2013-11-09 02:50

in trying to compile python 2.7.5 in haiku_r1a4, i can't seem to get around an error along the lines of "cannot find -lm". from what i've read elsewhere, libm is part of libroot in haiku and so blanking out any reference to -lm should work. tried it to no avail. in another thread about the same library, a couple of edits were recommended -- in configure.ac and makefile.in. tried those, same result. i'm kind of at a loss -- there are configure options accounting for the library in question, but i don't know what to put in there. current python would be kinda nice to have, and it seems everything needed to compile is in place, i just don't know how to tell this machine to do things.

Touchpad

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Wed, 2013-11-06 20:14

I run Haku on my Lenovo Laptop, thankfully it is well supported :) they only thing that I really have a hard time with is the touchpad. My problem is that I have to sometimes try to hold the left mouse button down with one finger while trying to move the mouse along the touchpad using an other finger on the same hand. This is not very comfortable and makes me frustrated sometimes. Is there a way to make this behave like it does on Win or Linux where I have what I think is referred to "single left mouse click." or something like that..

Question about /boot/home/config/settings/kernel/drivers/virtual_memory

Forum thread started by un_spacyar on Wed, 2013-11-06 19:25

Hello. I was looking around the settings files, and found this:
In the /boot/home/config/settings/kernel/drivers/virtual_memory settings file, I have the following variable:

swap_volume_capacity 6292305920

I found that the value in this key is equal to the total file size of my partition (volume). Maybe this is a dumb question, but:

Why there are the "total size" of the partition, instead of "free space size" of the partition?

Thank you!

Trouble in paradise, wpa+wpa2 not working

Forum thread started by Pitmaster on Wed, 2013-10-30 15:18

Hi all,
I got placed Haiku on my old notebook, for a second life. Brillant.
Problem is my wifi is regonised as network-device but not as wifi (I think) and my networkcard for cabel isn't regonised at all.
I have run system info for this and the outcome published: http://www.tuinstraat29.nl/systeminfo.html

I use a Fritsbox modem FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7340 with FRITZ!OS 05.51. Maybe I can do something here, accept making my systems less secure.

Can I get internet, for the time being just with the cabel, and the best is if I can get wifi working.

Is there someone that can help, thank's in advance,

Pit
