vimrc

Forum thread started by danboid on Fri, 2015-05-15 20:27

Has anyone managed to get a custom .vimrc working under Haiku using vim from the depot?

I've tried putting

export MYVIMRC=~/.vimrc

In my .profile but Haiku vim doesnt seem to recognise that and the packaged vimrc is read only.

I'm sure I can manually load a vimrc from within vim but that defeats the whole point of an rc file.

LMMS probs

Forum thread started by danboid on Sat, 2015-05-02 12:27

I was happy to see LMMS available from HaikuDepot but I've just tried it now and unfortuately its got some pretty bad bugs. The first two I spotted, which are enough to make me not want to use it yet are that you cannot move notes by cicking and dragging them and the selection tool that should let you draw a box to select multiple notes doesn't work either. No box gets drawn when you click and drag in select mode.

I don't know who ported it to Haiku but I thought they'd prob see my bug reports here. The LMMS build in Depot is still at 1.1.0 but 1.1.3 is out now so maybe just updating it to the latest version will fix these issues? Hopefully so as LMMS seems to be by far the best music app currently available for Haiku.

TRAC

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Fri, 2015-05-01 12:48

I really, really, really need some help. I can't log into Trac. I have not been able to reset my password for months. I have been on IRC looking for help. I have posted here looking for help. Pulkomandy tried to help. Can someone with admin rights please PM so that I can get my Trac account working?

Media Player not playing anything

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Mon, 2015-04-27 22:26

Just did a nightly install. Media Player will not play any file, not any audio (mp3, ogg, wav) nor any video (divx, mpeg, avi) that I have. All of the files I have tired worked just fine before.

I downloaded VLC, using Haiku Depot, thinking I could use that. But that app crashes immediately upon opening. So, it seems there is no way to play any media at this time.

Booting from CD

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Mon, 2015-04-27 22:08

Booting from CD is just taking way, way too long. I noticed this after the PM builds. It takes 7min to boot from CD to the installer and or Desktop using the CD on my laptop. Aprox 3 to 4 times longer then Linux.

Can't boot

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Mon, 2015-04-27 02:31

I have had this issue before but can't find the answer. I have just done a clean install of the Nightly Haiku image onto a system known to work very well with haiku. When I boot I get to a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner, but nothing else. If I boot from the install CD and hit the space bar and selected the HD to boot from I can boot into it from there.

Also, I can't remember when to use Intel or GUID to initialize the drive.

MENU key?

Forum thread started by donn on Sat, 2015-04-25 16:47

I've been having fun with keyboard navigation, since my track pad quit working. I'd never bothered to learn all the keys until now, but it turns out the support is quite good and I'm not sure I don't like it better this way.

The one major thing that doesn't seem to work as advertised is the key, supposed to get access to the Deskbar but I don't see anything happening. Keymap preferences show that it really does seem to be mapped. Does it work for anyone else? Is it possibly more subtle than I realize, and the Deskbar menus would spring open if I only knew what to do next?

Right now I have a Terminal window on startup, so I can invoke things from the command line, and shutdown etc. I can probably fix the trackpad - I reckon it's a loose connection from when I ripped the laptop apart to change wifi cards. And I have a USB mouse on hand if I need it. Just like being able to stay on the keyboard, and it's a shame the Deskbar is out of commission.
