Has anyone had any experience with festival on Haiku? I had a program called talkbox running on a very early version, but I can't get it to run anymore.

List attributes from Terminal

Forum thread started by un_spacyar on Wed, 2015-03-11 02:37

Hi. Is any way to see, from Terminal, more of one attribute from several files at once?

For example, if I have 3 people files, from Tracker I can see:

Name | Phone | EMail | Company
-----------------------------------------------------
John 555-222 test@... MyCompany
Mery 555-111 mery@... Mery-Company
Carl 555-000 carl@... Carl-Company

Is any way to show the same information, from Terminal?

I know about catattr command, but I can list the value of only one attribute at the same time.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

SMTP Fails to Authenticate

Forum thread started by BeDucky on Tue, 2015-03-10 11:14

I've been using an HREV47259 VM inside VMware on a Windows 7 (64-bit) laptop as my main e-mail machine (via BEAM) since late May of 2014. A couple days ago sending mail refused to work with the message "535 5.7.8 Error: authentication failed:". POP still works fine with the same user/password combination.

This reminded me that I had installed a more recent HREV inside VirtualBox on a different computer in mid January, (I don't have the access to the computer at the moment, and neglected to write down the HREV number), and it had this same problem right from the start. In this case it was a 32-bit version of Windows Vista acting as the host. (I filed it under "figure this out when I find time," and it never made it back up to the top of my To Do list.)

In my trouble shooting, I did a fresh install of HREV48871 on two more machines inside VirtualBox: one a Win7-64 machine, the other a Manjaro Linux host. They both refuse to send mail in their Haiku VMs with the same error. SMTP works on both these machines both in the host OSes and in Linux-based virtual machines.

I've played around with all the settings that might have anything to do with networking, with no success. I'm stumped. I don't think I made any changes in between the last successful e-mail send and when SMTP gave up to the host OS or VMware on the machine that used to work but stopped. I did change the account password in that time period, but the old password was the one that refused to work in the first place on the Vista machine, so that seems unlikely to be the culprit. Even if it was, say, the special characters in the password, I tested it out with a dictionary word + a single number password...no dice. Also, I'd tried sending on both port 25 and 587, so that's not it. And it doesn't seem like it's a problem with the mail server or mail account in question, because I tried it out with more than one account and mail server. Plus, why would it work for POP, but not SMTP? Sigh.

I took one stab at trying to use Mail to send, but it died silently, as Mail is wont to do.

Can anyone help out? I'd really appreciate it. I would really like to keep using Haiku+BEAM for my e-mail needs. Thanks.

Haiku Reboot blues when trying to Boot

Forum thread started by free10 on Wed, 2015-03-04 16:33

Haiku has stopped booting off the drive using bootman (see Haiku in Bootman, and once clicked the computer reboots instantly), and the computer does the same when using the live CD, and does it before anything can be seen or happen space bar or not. It may be a SATA problem with one of the other drives, and I will unplug a drive or two and see if it still happens. If it still does it I will be at a loss to explain why both CD and drive would start doing it, with no change in bios. 13.10 Ubuntu and 14.04 Ubuntu both boot fine on it. Just thought everyone should know this can be a problem for some.

"Works for gmail, youtube...."

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Sat, 2015-02-21 02:05

In Adrian's last blog post he makes the statement... (https://www.haiku-os.org/blog/pulkomandy/2015-02-18_end_contract_closing...)

"Works for gmail, youtube, facebook, and many other websites."

I will have to disagree(excluding Facebook - this one is ok, not good but ok. I have nothing but issues with these sites (Youtube, Gmail), to the point that I can't use either one. But I don't see anyone else saying anything so I wonder if it is just me.

Youtube: Site loads, can't log in. Video plays but is choppy most of the time. On more then one occasion I have had Haiku lock up on me while playing a video on youtube. The entire OS will stop responding, no key combinations will work, just audio keeps playing. I have to remove the battery from the laptop to reboot.

Gmail: I can now login, this is an improvment. But after about 2 seconds the search area at the top of the screen will vanish, then gmail goes back and reloads, it will do this over and over and over. or, will will go to some white page with "Document has been moved here." on it. Either way I can't actually use gmail.

So are these just known problems, or am I unique with these issues. Before someone says to just log a ticket, please understand that I have stability issues with Webpositive that I assumed were just due to it being at an unstable development stage. If I logged every problem and Webpositive crash I have had in the last 60min. I would have logged over 10 new tickets.

So while it is better then it has ever been for me. I would not call it really useable. I don't know if this is just the way it is right now, or am I have issues no one else is??
