USB flash disk, boot loader confused

Forum thread started by abda11ah on Fri, 2013-02-01 09:22

Hi,

I written the haiku image using the "dd" command from Ubuntu to a new USB stick (HP v210w 8GB) but the boot loader says there is no Haiku volume found.
The "dd" command was a success.
But I'm stuck at this screen :

I tried to select a boot volume but no one was found.
The tutorial i followed is from here :

Mail daemon could not connect to my imap gmail account

Forum thread started by DarkWolf on Sun, 2013-01-27 18:36

Is it only for me or this is a bug? The network is working (I'm writing from webpositive now),smtp is working and I can connect to gmail with thunderbird. The error message is "Connection error: Network is unreachable". I'm on haiku nightly. My configuration for imap is:
Imap server: imap.gmail.com
User name: my_user_name@gmail.com
Connection type: SSL.

edit: I forgot to say that I'm using pure gcc4 build.

Questions before I switch to Haiku from Ubuntu

Forum thread started by nictu on Sun, 2013-01-27 16:47

Hi Folks,

I use UBUNTU on my Asus 1000hg netbook. BUT there is a big problem with the ubuntu suspend function. Not just my netbook but lots of different types of pc do not resume after being put into Suspend. This is a major pain in the ass. Especially as Windows never had this problem. So, does this problem exit with Haiku too?

Also what about applications in Haiku? Is there a list of applications? Do we get Firefox, Libre Office or Open Office?

Help is much appreciated,
nictu.

Anyone else seeing this?

A picture paints a thousand words ...

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1043447/IMG_0172.JPG

This is on my 3-year old Samsung laptop. with a celeron 2.1 GHz, integrated Intel graphics and 6 GB Ram. The same laptop boots various Linux CDs effortlessly. I've tried it from USB stick as well. Identical results. That laptop did boot Haiku A3 once upon a time.

Also, I managed to get Haiku A4.1 booted and installed on my Acer netbook, so there's nothing wrong with the Haiku CD.

Any ideas?

Might I have used the wrong sequence or possibly left out some steps in trying to build Haiku with OS X on a Mac Mini?

Hi, everyone.

I’ve tried building Haiku using OS X 10.7 Lion on a Mac Mini. Might I have used the wrong sequence or possibly left out some steps? Below is a list of the steps that I took, with results listed under each step.

• Use Disk Utility to create a case-sensitive disk image and store the Haiku source tree on that.
-Successful.

• Mount the disk image, named “Haiku”.
-Successful.

• Type this in the Terminal:

cd /Volumes/Haiku/

-Successful.

• Install MacPorts.
-Successful.

• Close your Terminal, and enter in a new one:

sudo port install cdrtools gawk gnuregex wget yasm less mpfr gmp libmpc libiconv

-Successful.

git clone git://git.haiku-os.org/buildtools

-Successful.

git clone git://git.haiku-os.org/haiku

-Successful.

cd /Volumes/Haiku/buildtools/jam
make
sudo ./jam0 install

-Successful.

• Reopen a new Terminal, and enter:

jam -v

-Successful. Output:

Jam 2.5-haiku-20111222. OS=MACOSX. Copyright 1993-2002 Christopher Seiwald.
cd /Volumes/Haiku

-Successful.

curl -O http://dev.haiku-os.org/attachment/ticket/3298/haiku_gcc2_osx.patch

Need Help in Getting Wired Networking to connect.

Forum thread started by plumtreed on Fri, 2013-01-25 19:25

I have Haiku 4.1 Nov2012 running on an older Compac desktop. It all goes well except that it doesn't find the wired connection. There are two connections available and I don't know how to select either in Haiku?

Pref>network> chooses a connection I don't recognise........I am using a 'live' CD to make sure it is going to work before installation.....it works OK on a laptop but not the Desktop.

Can anybody direct me towards how I can select the right wired connection?

query and index issues

Forum thread started by dfourth on Tue, 2013-01-22 19:08

I have been struggling with what I believe to be one of the strongest reasons for using Haiku: the BFS indexing and search capability. However, I have yet to be able to get it to work as expected. Queries using the default attributes (e.g. name) provide results. Queries using new attributes produce strange results. I believe I have followed the process correctly, and have tried it with files that have pre-defined attributes (like email), and also with new attributes. In either case, I add the attribute to the index and confirm using lsindex. I then issue the reindex command; this does not function as I expect it to. I would expect reindex -rv * to reindex everything in the current directory and below, and provide verbose output on the terminal. However, the most it ever does is delay for a period of time, with never any terminal output. I have cut/pasted and copied existing files to force indexing, with spurious results. Usually, the queries with the added attributes produce no outputs at all. Sometimes results pop up in a query window when copying files, only to have the results disappear when the query is restarted. This suggests that the index had been updated, but then (possibly) reverted to the original state. Where is the index, and how should I go about debugging this problem? I have not seen a bug report like this, so it may be that I have a problem with my setups. I have been using Haiku in a VM since R3, and installed it on hardware at R4; currently running hrev45186, but the issue has been the same since the first installation.
