Won't boot old Alpha 3 or install alpha4

Forum thread started by free10 on Sat, 2012-11-17 03:25

Won't boot old Alpha 3 or install alpha4 on to my old alpha 3 partiction stops installing on the 17th package, even with all safe options on. Tried the iso and the anyboot images. My old alpha3 install freezes right after the icons and welcome debugging land happens, though it worked for a long time after it came out and I installed it. The live alpha 4 part works and boots on either the iso CD or anyboot DVD. I am running 2 gigs of memory and the older Intel quad cpu (6600 I think). Call me confused LOL

VLC 1.0.4?

Forum thread started by el.tigre.20 on Sat, 2012-11-17 03:24

Hello Everyone,

Currently, one can go to haikuware.com and download VLC which works perfectly, except for the fact that the version is 0.86i. I poked around Google, and discovered that someone successfully ported VLC version 1.0.4 but I cannot for the life of me find a download. I've hunted high and low with no success. I tried building the current version 2.0.4 which turned out to be unsuccessful as BASH complained a lot, and I was missing a lot of stuff.

If anyone has successfully built and run VLC 1.0.4 I would really love a copy.

And yes, I know that I should be taking advantage of the already built in media player in Haiku, but I just really enjoy and trust VLC...

Also (super random question) I tried building vlc and my terminal session told me that some resources depended on Lua, which I have installed, could someone tell me [in detail] how to link Lua [if that is the issue] thanks, I really like what's been done with A4, it's pretty cool!

Cheers!

VNC server randomly stops working

Forum thread started by kp3ft on Fri, 2012-11-16 12:09

We have the VNC server set up in Haiku Alpha 4 and it works great, except it occasionally stops functioning. We had the same exact problem with BeOS 5.03. It doesn't drop connection while someone is connected remotely, it's just that at some point during the day or night it ceases to function so that connecting remotely is not possible. Sometimes it will be fine for many days, other times only a day or so. Connecting with FTP remotely still works fine.

I'm guessing that the ethernet connection drops out occasionally, and VNC server doesn't automatically "reset" or whatever, unlike Haiku's FTP server. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this, maybe a script that reloads or reconnects VNC server every few hours? Also trying to figure out how to remotely execute a script using FTP, but so far no luck. We use VNC server extensively, and it's costly in gasoline to keep driving over to reload VNC server on the Haiku computer. Thanks for any help.

SATDecorator?

Forum thread started by el.tigre.20 on Wed, 2012-11-14 23:45

Hi all!

Haiku Alpha 4 is coming along nicely, and I am really enjoying it. I went to switch my setdecor to SATDecorator, but when I checked for setdecor -l, Default was the only one listed.... how do I install SATDecorator? I checked on Haikuware, and I found something, but when I installed it to /boot/home/config/add-ons/decorator, it still didn't work...

Any ideas? would it be a package in installoptionalpackage?

thanks!

Hyper-V Running Haiku successfully but no networking available?

Forum thread started by Siv on Tue, 2012-11-13 20:14

Hi,
I managed to get the new Release 1 Alpha 4 running in Hyper-V, but when I opened the networking control panel everything is greyed out?

My Hyper-V instance does have the native Network card set as its Virtual Switch so I was surprised when Haiku didn't allow me to configure or use it?

Is networking enabled in R1A4 or is it disabled, I had a quick rummage through the documentation, but didn't see anything about it being turned off?

Other than networking everything else seems to be working OK.

Siv
