Hardware configuration

Forum thread started by Texcor on Sat, 2012-07-28 02:16

Hey there,

I need to throw some parts together and and run the TUneTracker automation system.

I would appreciate a cheap list of components that work great with haiku. I've looked at the database on haikuware but those are old components that can't be purchased anymore.
I have to have a computer that just works. I need to setup a radio station and dealing with any major issues is not going to help me in this process.

Let me know if there's any hardware I should avoid

Thanks in advance
Konstantin

Mounting BFS Volume in Mac OS X

Forum thread started by ITY on Fri, 2012-07-20 16:25

Is there a way to mount a BFS volume on a Mac running, say, OS X Lion? I have various USB sticks formatted in the BeOS file system (BFS) and have not been able to mount them. I currently use FAT32 formatted USB sticks for doing this task, but I'd like to use BFS.

Can't boot from DVD/CD disc

Forum thread started by Nomand on Wed, 2012-07-18 16:54

First of all, I would like to say "Hello" to everyone :)
Today I just found out about the Haiku project. I downloaded ISO and burned on DVD disc. When OS start to booting it's shows only opening screen with logo and those small icons underneath. It only highlights up to third icon and then stuck. I try to use the same disc on other computer and it worked.
I'm using HP Pavilion dv9000, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD.

Where to post kernel panic screenshots?

Forum thread started by ssorbom on Sun, 2012-07-15 03:58

I was wondering where I should try to post Screenshots of my output from debugger land?
Also, I was suprised to find out that "qrencode" is not yet a valid debugger option. My nightly build is a few days old, but it came out long after the article announcing this feature. What shuld I do in the meantime when Haiku crashes? There's No way I can type out all that output by hand in a reasonable time! Could I ssh in?
Sorry for cramming so much into one post, it just didn't seem right to ask each question separately.
Yours,
S

accessing an afp address on Haiku

Forum thread started by el.tigre.20 on Fri, 2012-07-13 17:29

Hello Everybody!

Currently, I am running Haiku in Vmware Fusion 4, and it works beautifully... the only problem is that I don't have a way to transfer files from the host machine the the guest machine. The host is Mac OS X Lion (10.7) and the Guest is Haiku (obviously).

Firstly, is there a decent, free way to transfer files back and forth between host and guest? (keep in mind that currently, vmware does not have any support for Haiku - file sharing is not an option for haiku).

Secondly, because there is no filesharing within Vmware Fusion 4, how can I accomplish file transferring between Haiku and Mac OS X? I tried Macintosh File Server, but I can't figure out the software, and it's a really old piece of software - suppose to run on Mac OS X 10.5. I've tinkered with mediatomb, and I get nothing. And none of the web browsers in haiku support afp:// protocols, so I can't connect that way...

So I'm really at a loss. FTP is an option, but I have no idea how to set one up for free...

Thanks, and I hope someone can help! cheers!!!

installed haiku, now can't boot from usb

Forum thread started by liquid boy on Fri, 2012-07-13 03:40

just installed the latest nightly of haiku on a spare partition, just to check it out. now when i try to boot a linux install from usb, nothing happens, from cd, works fine.
i used the haiku bootloader, and also used the second option in the 'tools' (can't remember what it's called), maybe that stuffed something up?

i still have usb checked in the bios as the first boot option

any ideas?

net_server and media_server fighting for resources?

Forum thread started by dcatt on Thu, 2012-07-12 01:57

One thing I have noticed with Haiku Alpha 3 is that anytime I am connected to the network and want to play audio or video media; the playback is lethargic and choppy. If I disconnect from the network, the problem goes away. I know that Alpha 4 is around the corner; so is this an issue only existing Alpha 3 that will be solved with Alpha 4 OR has this issue ever been reported?
