Are Floppy Drives Supported?

Forum thread started by stellarpower on Sat, 2012-06-02 21:05

I've been using Haiku for several years now (since Alpha 1) and, as my drive wasn't recognised, always assumed that Haiku didn't have floppy support, or at least, not for mounting. But I just read a post about floppies, and even doing surface scans in DriveSetup. Do I have a bug, or are floppy disks not widely supported?

Cannot see network device

Forum thread started by jasimon9 on Sat, 2012-06-02 05:59

I tried Haiku on a spare box that I had. It loads find from the USB, but there is no networking.

System:
Pentium D 820
MB Intel D945GTP
LAN Intel Integrated Ethernet

The Network Preferences applet shows no device. Is there a procedure for obtaining drivers? Or is there something else that is the problem?

Question: How to virtualize my MAC address?

Forum thread started by ssorbom on Sat, 2012-06-02 04:33

Hello,
I have so many questions I hardly know which to ask first!
I'll start here.
I need to be able to virtualize my MAC address to connect to the internet.
This worked in Gnu/Linux via the command:
ifconfig [interface] hw ether [MAC address]
What is the equivalent in Haiku? The above did not work in Haiku and "hw" is not even in the ifconfig help.
Thank you in advance.

Cannot get Haiku to install

Forum thread started by jasimon9 on Fri, 2012-06-01 06:36

I have tried the following on an box that normally runs Windows XP:

1. Create a USB boot drive from the AnyBoot image (used dd on my Mac).
2. Try booting from it. Nothing appears on the screen.
3. Next try BiOS selection of boot drive; USB drive selected, but still nothing happens.
4. Create a CD from the AnyBoot image (used ImgBurn on Windows).
5. After what appears like a normal boot load from the CD, the screen is still blank.
6. Go into safe mode and try several variations; at point where I would think the system should be booted up, there is just a blank screen.
7. Play around with more safe mode options, including lower level video settings. Still no joy.

Just for fun, inserted the USB drive into my Mac, and Opt-Restart. It does not even recognize the USB as bootable.

Not very encouraging.

Any ideas?

Wireless and Nightlies

Forum thread started by Forumuser on Thu, 2012-05-31 12:00

Seems every time I update with the nightly builds, my wireless connection gets trashed and I have to re-install wpa_supplicant to get it to work again. The only work-around I've found is to rename and replace the system folder with the nightly build, but I'm concerned that I'm not completely updating Haiku.

So two questions: why do you suppose the update breaks wpa_supplicant, and is it okay to update as I am with just the system folder?

Vision - IRC

Forum thread started by jeffrey on Tue, 2012-05-29 09:31

I installed one of the nightly builds hrev44196 and found that the R1A3 addendum showed a solution to this even the build at that time did not have the correction in it. So i had to manually follow that instruction and then got Vision to work. This is thumbs down
