Bootable USB

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Thu, 2015-01-29 04:39

I am having a similar issue that I talked about here: https://www.haiku-os.org/community/forum/me_again
But on USB

I am trying to create a bootable Haiku USB drive. I initialize it, partition it, format it, install. But I keep running into the No active partition issue. I have tried redoing it a number of times. I am absolutely positive beyond any doubt that I marked the partition as active. I even used the "Tools" in the installer to write the boot sector to the Haiku partition. But it still will not boot. The installer never gives me an error and as far as it is concerned everything is just fine.

Forum thread started by Roman78 on Tue, 2015-01-27 09:22

Hello everybody,

Just installed Haiku for the second time (first time was some zears ago). First impression: looks and feels greate, even on some older computers. But were can i find more software?

I googled a bit an found sites like bebits.com (atleast if original BeOS software runs on Haiku), but most links are dead.

I would like some office program, an audio program like itunes or Wimamp and mazbe some games.

Startup Sound

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Tue, 2015-01-27 02:32

I found an mp3 that I want to use as a startup sound. I configured the startup sound in prefs. Tested it there and it played. But when I boot Haiku, I don't get the sound. Is that working yet?

"low resource pages" message

Forum thread started by un_spacyar on Mon, 2015-01-26 04:25

Hello. When copy files to a USB device, I see the following messages in the Syslog:

KERN: low resource pages: note -> normal
KERN: low resource pages: normal -> note

That's entries repeat several times. What they mean?

Thank you!

One more thing...

I promise this is it for a while. :)

I am using the "Power Save" option because I am on a laptop. But when ever I reboot, I have to select it again. It isn't saved. Is there a way to set Haiku to use Power Saver over Low Latency and have it stay that way between boots??

Me Again

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Sun, 2015-01-25 01:39

Ok, so here is something that has been really getting to me for years. In order to get Haiku to boot I have to install it incorrectly.

By this I mean, to the best of my knowledge using drive setup you should.

1. Initialize the drive to Intel
2. Partition the drive for Haiku
3. Format the partition.

when ever I do it this way, Haiku never boots and I get "no active bootable partition" (Yes I did make it active when I created it)

Now, if I install doing the following

1. Partition the for Haiku
2. Format for Haiku

by skipping the initialize part I get a bootable Haiku install. I know there is some crazy, long winded command line to get it to work if I do it the correct way. But, WHY?? Why can't I just install it like I am supposed to and get it to work. Why do I either have to skip a step or revert to some command line to fix it after installing it?????? Why do I have to use a dd after installing it? Are we expecting new users to have to go through this?? I keep waiting for this to be fixed, been waiting for years now.

Auto start a program at boot.
