Haiku wont boot from Hard drive

Forum thread started by TallnRich on Tue, 2012-03-20 02:15

I have grub2 installed and working on one drive (/dev/sdb1) and want to install Haiku on my other drive (/dev/sda)
the harddrive im installing it onto is from an old windows xp machine.
I installed the anyboot to my usb jump drive, and here is what i have tried so far:

1:) used gparted to create a primary partition (/dev/sda1);
Booted Haiku from the usb, ran installer, formatted sda1 with Befs, installed successfully;
edited 40_custom with root=(hd0,1), ran update-grub;
rebooted, select the custom entry, screen turns black for a split second, grub menu pops back up.
tried booting from the harddrive itself (from the POST screen? im not an expert...) and i get an error along the lines of "error in master boot record"

2:) repeated everything from 1 except installed without queries, same problem.

3:) deleted all partitions from /dev/sda1, created extended partition, created logical partition (/dev/sda5);
ran installer like in 1;
edited 40_custom with root=(hd0,5), ran update-grub;
rebooted, selected the custom entry, grub returns: "error: invalid signature"
edited 40_custom with root=(hd0,6), ran update-grub, same problem.

If you want my computer specs, it is an hp Pavilion a6110n
amd atheron x64 dual core cpu

atheroswifi + WPA2

Forum thread started by erm67 on Wed, 2012-02-29 12:52

Hi to everybody,
I recently decided to try haiku and I really like it, albeit a bit unfinished and a bit unstable. I am good at C++ and maybe contribute a bit to development, I'd like to program a bit on haiku.
But there is a big problem at the moment, my only internet connection right now is through a WPA2 wireless link and I cannot reconfigure it to use WEP.
I tried hard to make haiku connect but no way at the moment; I tried the alpha first, than a nightly and now I am running a self compiled master (hrev43804) (all gcc2 hybrids) but still no connection.
The first time I recompiled it I had added 'AddOptionalHaikuImagePackages wpa_supplicant ;' to UserBuildConfig but even if wpa_supplicant was installed in the system it did't worked, instead installing it using installoptionalpackages once the system was installed it did work, don't know why ...
Anyway, I have two wifi card available an intel ipw2200 and an atheros AR922X, both are recognized (after installing the firmware for the ipw2200) but I cannot connect. I'd prefer to use the atheros since it works better, it is correctly recognized by haiku:

There is one message about ieee80211_sysctl_attach not being implemented but I don't know if it is related to the problem, anyway using the ipw2200 drives gives the same results.

When I try to activate the network the popup asking the password appears, I guess it is from wpa_supplicant since it didn't worked when wpa_supplicant was not correctly installed, but after a few second in 'configuring' the network doesn't work.
The log shows that DHCP is trying to configure the network but it gets no answer:

Wireless Broadcom HP compaq nc6110

Forum thread started by fritzferr on Tue, 2012-02-21 22:58

I've got nightly gcc4 hybrid on the my old laptop and the wired portion works fine. The problem with the wireless is that the laptop won't physically enable. I've gone into the BIOS and made sure it's enabled, but I get a feeling that HP made some kind of software add-on to XP to make it function properly. Any ideas would be cool.

I did find a note from a guy in a Fedora forum that says he found old drivers and recompiled them to enable the switch, but I was unable to find them (not that I'm too sure I could do a compiling!).

HTTP Proxy Settings in Haiku so as to access Internet

Forum thread started by Anil Kag on Mon, 2012-02-13 13:09

I am new to Haiku. I am running Haiku in virtualbox (it's nightly image).
In order to install webpositive, i am using installoptionalpackages cmd, but is not able to resolve the host name.
I'm an undergraduate student and university provides us internet via proxy server . Can anyone tell me how to enter HTTP Proxy settings in Haiku and bypass some of the proxies??.
I am a linux user as well, in linux we have bash.bashrc, apt.conf and wgetrc to enter the proxy settings(username and passwords). Is there anything similar to it in Haiku.

Minecraft and JRE

Forum thread started by el.tigre.20 on Sat, 2012-02-04 08:11

Has anybody successfully launched and played Minecraft in Haiku? I know that there is hardly any java support for Haiku, but I really want to get this to work. Anybody?
