Changing search engine in Webpositive

Forum thread started by ddavid123 on Mon, 2011-12-05 22:58

By default Google is the search engine of Webpositive. There is an option to change the search engine in Webpositive via Window ->Settings and in the General tab. When I changed http://google.com to http://duckduckgo.com I thought duck duck go would be the new default search engine! Come to find out, google is still the search engine. When I search for something in the address/search bar I always get google results.

So I thought I needed to close Webpositive and restart it and all would be well, it wasn't. Google is still the search engine! I would prefer to use duck duck go instead of google simply for privacy sake. It also doesn't hurt to have search results based on what you entered instead based on what google thinks you want to see!

Any idea how to change the search engine?

Problem resolving host name with WebPositive

Forum thread started by tcg on Sun, 2011-12-04 17:52

WebPositive works for reading a page of file:// designation but not http://. I get the error message "Couldn't resolve host name". I am using a router. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am doublebooting with Kubuntu using grub. The grub setup worked perfectly.

How do I build Haiku, in Ubuntu/Lubuntu/Puppy Linux, using Git...

Forum thread started by Luposian on Thu, 2011-12-01 21:08

I used to do my own builds of Haiku, but now I don't know what to do, because the repository has been changed from Svn to Git. How much has changed about the process? Just the download of tools/source or more? There doesn't seem to be an all-in-one document, detailing the entire build process, except mine, which is no no longer valid, because various aspects have changed. I can write up a revised one, but I need to know how much has changed and what hasn't.

This is a snippet of my most recently updated docs, based on what I think has changed, based on what I could find:

Changes are in bold.

Ready to begin? Great! Let's go!

Bring up the Terminal (it's in Application → Accessories).

Type: sudo apt-get install git autoconf automake texinfo flex bison gawk build-essential

Type in your System password and hit [Enter]. Ubuntu will download/install various files.

When you see the Terminal prompt again, type:

git clone git://git.haiku-os.org/buildtools.git haiku/buildtools

When the Terminal reappears, type:

cd haiku/buildtools/jam
make
sudo ./jam0 install

Type your System password, if necessary, on the last command.

When the Terminal prompt reappears, type:

cd ../../..

This will take you back to where Terminal started, when you first ran it.

Now type:

git clone git://git.haiku-os.org/haiku.git haiku/haiku

This will download the entire Haiku source tree.

Let me know if this is the right way to go about doing it or not. Thanks!

Forum thread started by Giova84 on Thu, 2011-12-01 18:23

It start correctly (as you can see from this link, i can click on menu and options)

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/593/abit.jpg/

but an error window deny to me to use it.. There is a way to look inside the code to make it full working with Haiku?
The fact that it start seems to be a good start point for a Word Processor to use in Haiku!

Problems booting Haiku from USB

Forum thread started by Ugly customer on Mon, 2011-11-28 19:09

Hello

I am very curious to try Haiku but I have some problems booting.

I used Imagewriter to create an image on a USB drive. When I reboot and go into BIOS to boot from the USB, I get the Haiku boot screen and the icons start to light up only up to the forth icon. The fifth icon remains grey and a window opens up saying “Panic” Welcome to kernel debugging land” Could not read block 22145 I tried again and this time I got the same problem but the message was slightly different. “Could not read block 65558”. A new block.

As the fifth icon represents Loading CPU-specific modules I wonder if I might have unsuitable hardware, I use a HP laptop Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 3500+ 789 MHz 896MB RAM.

Any help with booting Haiku would be really appreciated.

Cheers!

2 Haiku Machines File Sharing

Forum thread started by hey68you on Mon, 2011-11-28 11:10

Is there a way to mount files from Haiku computer 1 at Haiku computer 2 (using R1 Alpha3).

I want to be able to play (and add to playlists) media files (e.g. using MediaPlayer or CL-Amp) from one Haiku box to another. I don't think ftp will work for this or will it?

Thanks,
hey68you
